Gary Verified Member Posted November 19, 2016 Author Posted November 19, 2016 Reminder of what Andrew Miller's contract is... 4 yrs/$36M That's nuts.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 I'm surprised at the move by Cardinals. They have been slipping for a while and now it feels like they aren't the great franchise they used to be competing for a WC I mean they aren't winning that division for the next 5 years are they
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 Reminder of what Andrew Miller's contract is... 4 yrs/$36M He signed in 2014. If he was a free agent he'd be looking at Chapman / Jansen money. In 2018 we might look at Cecil's new contract as a bargain when elite relievers are earning $20m a year!

jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 The contract seems reasonable. Cecil is really good...but the no trade clause is just weird.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 I wouldn't have included the full NTC. That's worth a friggen ton.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 Cecil is really good Checks projections Cecil is barely over replacement
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 Can someone start the 2016 forum awards thread so I can cast my 'worst poster' vote for RealAccountant?

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 4 Years/30.5 Million. I think I'd do that. Cool. But then you have that much less to find 2 Outfielders and a 1B (or at the very least a 1B platoon). Unless you guys know for sure that payroll will be beyond $160M.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 The multi innings Ace reliever era just begun Goodbye Brett That era existed 30-40 year ago.

BTS Community Moderator Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 7.5 Mill a season for a guy with a career 4.26 ERA? what has this sport come too Andrew Miller has a career 4.22 ERA. I can't believe Francona used him in so many key spots in the playoffs.

CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 I haven't been on here for a while, so can someone explain why I thought he signed with us last week? Didn't he sign with us for 3 years?

The difference is Millers high ERA comes from before 2013 when he was struggling. Since then he has been lights out, you cant compare the 2 pitchers numbers.

Since then, he's been a pretty darn good reliever so I don't get what type of argument you're trying to make here.

Sometimes failed starters move to relief and completely transform their careers. Cecil the reliever is an outstanding pitcher.

Rusty_Savage Verified Member Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 So who now for LH? Logan
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 I haven't been on here for a while, so can someone explain why I thought he signed with us last week? Didn't he sign with us for 3 years? You maybe read these posts which provoked a debate on whether Cecil was worth 3/20 or not: Davidi saying 3/20 for Cecil. Omg $20m for Cecil???? As in done deal? If so, that's not bad at all.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 So who now for LH? Logan Michael Dunn is interesting. Always has had solid K rates, though he can be wild at times. Marc Rzepczynski is a FA as well and could be an interesting target. Brian Matusz could be a good buy low. Same with Johny Venters. I'd roll the dice on either of those two.
