Slade Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2016 Posted November 23, 2016 I would hope the owners push the international draft hard and commit to a lockout if necessary, that system is so f***ing corrupt.
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2016 Posted November 23, 2016 Then they should work in Ticket sales or concession stands on the side. This is the CBA, they are never going to fight for people not on the 40 man. Just won't happen. Standard Union. Union: "We fight for the poor and the oppressed" - Hey guys, what about these people making less than minimum wage? Union: "Increase their wages too, unless it impacts the wages of the union people, in which case f*** 'em."

No more corrupt then the Teams who have benefited or taken advantage of it!!! They as well as MLB knew and looked at it with a blind eye. Money Money Money!!! Rinse and Repeat, eight men out follow the big Bouncey ball! Wink wink Nuff said
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2016 Posted November 23, 2016 Abolish the " No Trade clause" from contracts forevermore!!!
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2016 Posted November 23, 2016 Allow Trading of all draft picks !!!
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2016 Posted November 23, 2016 Disallow trades with money attached going either way as it only benefits the money teams, buying their way out of bad contracts they probably should have never made! f*** em, suffer!
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2016 Posted November 23, 2016 I've come into this f***ing thread three times in the last ten minutes thinking there would be actual news but it's just BBBB with a new post each time. Please stop.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2016 Posted November 23, 2016 Make it so all players Drafted in any draft year are retained by the team that drafted them, and remain as part of that team till and for 5 years after reporting! Or if drafted you can not enter the draft for 2-4 years again upon not singing with the team who drafted you! For this each player drafted signs for 1/2 the league min. Salary every year in the minors! No more, no less!

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2016 Posted November 23, 2016 Funny thing is the MLBPA would probably have been better off accepting a salary cap. The owners have been pocketing more and more of league revenues to the point of where the players get the lowest amount of all of the sports. Maybe there is some correction due in the next few players with all of the star FA and players will stop signing these team friendly extensions.
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2016 Posted November 23, 2016 I think with the reports of the way Cuban players have been treated (held hostage, and had their families threatened until they sign), MLB needs to seriously address that in the next collective bargaining agreement. A draft would certainly be one way of doing it.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2016 Posted November 23, 2016 Holy f*** man, take a horse tranquilizer and shut the f*** up. Right after you! You should have shut the f*** up before posting this yourself!! f*** you too!

Only thing that would help them is if Cuba made a deal with the United States allowing them to play there.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 Looks like we could be looking at a luxury tax threshold increase to $200 M which is bad news for the Jays because some teams will be able to make higher offers to FAs and not get luxury taxed Meanwhile in Bluejays land....

Because we're small market...
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 Because we're small market... No, but I'm not really sure I ever see our payroll approaching 180M or more, do you? I could see 150-170M though, any time it makes sense.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 26, 2016 Posted November 26, 2016 No, but I'm not really sure I ever see our payroll approaching 180M or more, do you? I could see 150-170M though, if it makes sense. If the Canadian dollar rose above the US dollar I could see it close to 200M but the chances of that happening are quite slim.

That would be nice. I thought that may have been possible with the early stock market reaction on election night, but then everything stabilized again, as expected.

BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2016 Posted November 27, 2016 How many years do these agreements last in duration?
Governator Community Moderator Posted November 27, 2016 Posted November 27, 2016 How many years do these agreements last in duration? The last one was 5 years. The game is changing so much (financially speaking) I reckon they can't really do much longer.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 27, 2016 Author Posted November 27, 2016 MLB network is reporting that there are two serious issues holding things up. The owners want an international draft. The Players Association wants to eliminate draft-pick compensation for free agents.

Have MLB teams create own and operate baseball academy's providing everything needed, housing, academics, food and elite training facilities and be fully funded and staffed and payed for by teams and MLB. Fix .... We remove the compensation you remove the no trade clause too or from language from contracts, including the 5/10 veto rule!

Because thats what would need to happen. Unless it came out of revenue sharing there is no way teams are going to pay for that. There would be a ton of costs to pay for the infrastructure, security (going to need a ton in Venuzuela), and scouts to go find these kids. Owners would never agree because they want a draft to save money, building these academies costs even more $.

There are 30 academies in place right now built between the clubs and the MLB, and are run by the MLB office in the DR. Twenty two of them have dormitories in place. Nothing will change except for how the players are chosen and no team can make a deal with the family of (or Uncle Buscone) some 13 year old.

I thought that may have been possible with the early stock market reaction on election night, but then everything stabilized again, as expected. CDN had a record one-night drop on election night. And Trump is going to try to raise the USD. Probably gonna be even harder now.
