I will grant you that. I will even grant you that what ever number it was, it was too much.

 

But the fact is this. There is no ill will meant by the city of Cleveland or Atlanta by naming their teams what they do.... Yes the fans can get silly and show disrespect.

 

I personally think they names should be changed. It's not worth the headache. I think the 10 or so universities and pro sports teams should just get together, with no pressure and simply change the names. But mostly I want to do this to take the issue away from the left. The left wants this... the left needs this. In the new game of identity and victim politics, this was a great issue. I'd love to see it gone.

I'm curious if this is just one or two people or something? 'Indian' is an American term and Canadians rarely use it.

 

Half of my high school was Native (as are many of my friends) and I have consulted with First Nations as a part of my job. While it isn't exactly offensive to most people, none of them call themselves Indians.

They can name their team whatever they want, I don't care; my original point was that admin's comment was beyond stupid then before long I was reaching and then confusing skiing slopes and snowboard slopes

It's not offensive. It's just not true. Fighting anti-semitism is a huge thing. If the team were called the Kikes or something, you can bet they would have changed it by now because the Jewish community has a much more effective lobby around these issues than Native Americans have. The BNai Brith, The Jewish Anti Defamation League would be all over something like this and they frequently are in cases that affect them directly which to be fair, is perfectly within their right. I might disagree with them in specific cases but the cause is valid.

 

EDIT: Upon further reflection... Your comment actually is really offensive. Suggesting that the Jewish people are cool because they "got over" WWII is pretty f***ed in addition to being patently false.

I can only speak for my area, but I'd say 'Native' is used 90% of the time in casual conversation. I also hear 'Brown' or 'Nish' (Anishnaabe) a fair bit. Calling one of them an Indian would raise a few eyebrows, mostly because nobody ever says it.

I'd like to point out that the Jewish lobby is more effective because they have more money. Your comment could be misconstrued as saying that they care or fight more, which isn't true. I know that isn't what you meant.
