CBlake Verified Member Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 The notification I got from MLB.com said it was Buffalo not Bluefield, but what does it really matter. Its likely he will never leave the Jays clubhouse.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 1, 2016 Author Posted September 1, 2016 Hopefully they never regret burning this option (seems unlikely they would need to again, but you never know) Edit: or was this year's option already used at the start of the season? Thinking he was on DL/rehab assignment but not sure...
baseballsss Verified Member Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 Exactly It's only on paper Of course it's only on paper but why did they have to option him in the first place?
Inklink Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 WTF SHATKINS!!!1!!!!!!!!111one!
TheHurl Site Manager Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 There is no option burned. It's 20 days in the minors to burn an option.

AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 It would be fun if Gibbons was a prankster, and called Travis into his office for a serious talk to tell him the organization decided to demote him to Bluefield.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 Why...just let Thole and a Dickey go.....
flafson Verified Member Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 What's the deal with optioning Travis?
TheHurl Site Manager Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 Is this true? Was the move made before midnight?
TheHurl Site Manager Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 It would be fun if Gibbons was a prankster, and called Travis into his office for a serious talk to tell him the organization decided to demote him to Bluefield. I picture him doing it behind a desk with no pants on. Just the kind of prankster I picture Gibbons being.
Inklink Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 What's the deal with optioning Travis? Falling out between Gibbons and Travis.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 $2,400...more than the suit that Bautista made the Jays repay him for.
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 What's the deal with optioning Travis? 1/11 his last three games. Team just has more confidence in Goins moving forward.
KevinGregg Verified Member Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 What's the deal with optioning Travis? since the move was made before rosters expanded in order to get Thole eligible for postseason, we needed a 25 man spot i guess. Travis was optioned to open up that spot.

Travis was optioned to open up that spot. Ok, so if this was the point of doing this, I assume that this does not impact Travis' eligibility at all? If so, this creative move has no downside, but it was still not a move worth doing.

Since Thole signed a major league deal had had to be added to the 25 man. Its interesting that he didnt sign a minor league deal with the Jays so they could avoid this (not that the Jays really lose anything - as mentioned they won't burn an option on Travis. Sucks that Travis loses some money though I guess) - maybe he had other offers?

TheHurl Site Manager Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 Ya, if it had to be done, why not Gruber edit - I mean Goins lol at 19 days in Buffalo already. Would have cost him an option (his first stint was rehab and doesn't count so it's only from August 1st to 18 that counts)
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 1, 2016 Author Posted September 1, 2016 What's the deal with optioning Travis? Just to make rtoom for Thole before Sept 1 roster expansion Today is an off day so it's just a roster management move with no implications

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 1, 2016 Author Posted September 1, 2016 Is this true? Was the move made before midnight? Yes You probably already saw this in the other thread
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 Even if an option was burned it really doesn't matter for a player like Travis.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 1, 2016 Author Posted September 1, 2016 Even if an option was burned it really doesn't matter for a player like Travis. Probably not Looks like he's going to stick in the majors

Same thing Sanchez would have done when he went down.
