UWHabs Verified Member Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 Travis won't lose any money. They prob agreed to make up for it on the next contract he signs with them. Same thing Sanchez would have done when he went down. Yep, they'll basically give Travis a 510k salary next year instead of 507.5k.

UWHabs Verified Member Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 As much as I don't like Thole, if Martin or Navarro gets hurt, I'd rather have Thole as an option than be forced to use someone like Kratz as the backup catcher. And if we don't need him, then oh well, it's not like it cost the team anything.

vilifyingforce Verified Member Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 This is key because normally players must stay in the minors for 10 days when optioned down except for recall due to injury or because the team he has been optioned to season has ended.

Ah. So if it was July you couldn't recall him so quickly. So wouldn't have done this. Good point.
rydermike Verified Member Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 Last year we did the same thing but in reverse with Thole. We called up Hutchinson on August 29 I believe; sent Thole to Bluefield and brought him back September 2nd to catch Dickey, missing no starts. Funny that last year, Thole was the effect of the procedural move and this year Thole was the cause of the procedural move.

What are they thinking What's to not understand? Travis needs some more seasoning in Bluefield and Thole will be playing a huge role for the Jays going forward.

Look at Thole's xHBPA and FAP in August, he's basically been carrying the team. But of course casual and bandwagon fans will always look at batting average. Travis needs to improve his route efficiency, and that's not going to happen in wonky MLB ballparks.
