I don't really agree with that, but I do find it funny how I'm clearly not the only one in this thread trashing the poor hitting as of late and yet somehow getting all the (predictable) flack for it.

History is full of examples of players who went back to the minors and got better...or changed teams and got better.. or played on an offense with a lot of good players...and got better

 

Well sure we could give him a shot... But I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up being worse than Smoak.

AAA is not the same as MLB dude. Montero has proven he can't hit in the big leagues.

 

You don't say? So you would equate AAA with Inter County? That number is probably .270ish in the bigs.

Montero is pretty clearly not the answer. His walk rate and ISO are atrocious in AAA this year. He projects to be a below average hitter, and has been a below average hitter his entire MLB career.

Lol.. There are tons of examples. I'm not saying he'll turn out to be an every day player in the MLB, but a possible DH platoon is very possible in the near future.

But yes lets call up the guy with a career 92 wRC+ through ~900 MLB PAs. This will solve everything.

It won't solve everything, but i'll bet that if Montero was called up tomorrow to replace Smoak, he would definitely contribute well offensively for at a few weeks until the league adjusts. It may be good for a few wins over that stretch.

 

In the meantime, let Smoak go down and start hitting the ball hard again. Even against lesser pitching, it will do wonders for him feeling that again.
