Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2016 Author Posted August 8, 2016 if the ligament is torn it's more a case of whether he will make it worse or not if he plays and pain level. It takes months for a ligament to heal and it might need to be operated on to repair it. This is really bad if it's actually torn. Well why does Shi Davidi thinks it's not that big of a deal then? Surely someone from the team indicated that to him.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 Torn ligament in your thumb is not a very minor injury. I would imagine just gripping a bat would be painful. He already has enough issues at the plate.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2016 Author Posted August 8, 2016 Yeah that tweet from Davidi seems kind of weird. Torn thumb ligament and out 4 to 5 days don't really seem to compute.
nextyear Verified Member Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 This really hurts the team. In my opinion it is worse than losing Bautista. Kevin Pillar has a fWAR of 2.6 in 443 plate appearances - http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=12434&position=OF Jose Bautista has a fWAR of 0.7 in 346 plate appearances - http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=1887&position=3B/OF

BlueJayWay Verified Member Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 He was really just misused I think during the down years. He was always a well above average hitter vs RHP but couldn't touch a lefty, 2009 perhaps being the exception rather than the breaking point. Yep. There was only one year where Lind could hit lefties at all, and he was an everyday player for a few years after that even though he couldn't hit lefties again. Finally they limited him to facing righties, who he could always hit.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 Upton Jr will run everything down and make it look easy in Center. But he won't make those rediculous diving catches Pillar makes. Especially the ones coming in. We got a little spoiled by that. But I'm really not worried about CF defense. We need his bat to play a little more. I really wasn't expecting this. He was actually pretty good in San Diego at limiting his slumps compared to his absolute past free falls. He's definitely trying to do to much. I think he gets a few big hits for us before its all said and done. Hes a free 4th OF next year.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 Did Pompey f*** somebody's daughter. Like seriously... He needs to play everyday.... September call up
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 He needs to play everyday.... September call up I agree. He could have played everyday against RHP.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 Did Pompey f*** somebody's daughter. Like seriously... My guess is he gets dealt before the 2017 season starts. They really seem to have fallen out of favour with him.

We need two more OFers for next season and the FA market sucks. I could see him being on the team, perhaps in some sort of platoon role with Upton.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 WAR doesn't have any predictive value. Steamers ROS: Joes Bautista 1.1 fWAR Steamers ROS: Kevin Pillar 0.8 fWAR Sure it does. Or else it would be useless. It's just not a predictive stat. North'd
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 Sure it does. Or else it would be useless. It's just not a predictive stat. North'd Yes? It's a descriptive stat. Did you just say it does have predictive value but is not a predictive stat? lol.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 Yes? It's a descriptive stat. Did you just say it does have predictive value but is not a predictive stat? lol. I'm just being a North. WAR is a skill; it is repeatable year to year, and you'd expect a 4 WAR guy to be in the general area of 4 WAR next year. Or else it'd be useless. However it's only describing what has happened obviously. So it has predictive value but the intent of the stat is not to predict. Like FIP. FIP is meant to be a better way to evaluate pitchers than ERA, but is actually a better predictor of ERA as well despite that not being the intention. Has predictive value but is not a predictive stat. North'd

Ezequiel Carrera has been worth 0.9 fWAR in 222 PA Jose Bautista has been worth 0.7 fWAR in 346 PA Thus we should conclude that Carrera should be starting over Jose Bautista. I know you're just being a North so it's all good

Zizzzzy Verified Member Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 Pillar dives very aggressively, was only a matter of time really. He used to wear one of those fancy sliding gloves that protects fingers from being jammed.... guess he stopped since he hadn't been trying to steal much of late. Hopefully Pop Upaton can find his place with more at bats... his swing looks dreadful right now. Upton reminds me a lot of Gose, spotty reliability at plate, fast base runner.. who will eventually run into a lot of outs due to being cocky about his base stealing which will be the focus of his game by media since Jays have nobody else that can run.
rancher Verified Member Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 If Pillar is determined to slide face forward into a base then it should be mandatory that he were a protective glove. Gibbons has to enforce it. As for a replacement outfielder, bringing in new fresh blood rather than someone nearing the end of their careers, is the way to go Good ones are out there so it's up to the scouts to go find them.
