The Bisons fell to the Syracuse Chiefs 6-1 on Wednesday. After splitting a pair of ballgames on Tuesday, the Buffalo bullpen struggled to keep the club in the game, allowing five runs in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings.

A three run sixth inning broke a tie-game in favor of the Chiefs. With the score tied at one, Matt Skole mashed his 15th home run of the year. His solo-shot is his fifth against the Herd this season. Two batters later, Matt den Dekker roped a double that plated Jason Martinson, as Syracuse took a 3-1 lead. A two-run bottom of the seventh and an insurance run in the eighth sealed the Herd's fate.

Scott Copeland took the bump for Buffalo in his third start of the year. In the bottom of the third, the Chiefs struck first, as Michael Taylor lined a long single off the glove of center fielder Dalton Pompey. It was the only run allowed by the 28-year old Bisons' righty.

The Herd tied the game at one in the top of the sixth on an RBI single by Junior Lake. With two runners on, catcher Erik Kratz smoked a ball to dead-centerfield later in the frame, but the ball fell into the glove of Michael Taylor for the final out of the frame.

Syracuse starter Austin Voth fanned Chris Colabello with two on and two out in the first inning, freezing the Bisons' first baseman on a 2-2 cutter. He allowed six hits in total, but kept the Herd out of the run column for the first five innings. Voth's night ended after he limited the Herd to one run over 7.0 innings, as he wins his sixth game this year.

Copeland left in the sixth inning, when Chad Girodo served-up Skole's solo-homer and den Dekker's RBI double. Girodo fanned Zach Collier with a pair of runners on base to limit the damage to two runs.

Matt Dermody allowed his first earned runs as a Bison in the seventh, as he yielded a two-run double to Jason Martinson. Caleb Ramsey took Bobby Korecky deep in the eighth, putting the Chiefs up by a 6-1 margin with his homer, which held for the remainder of the game.

In the eighth, Matt Grace came in to face the heart of the Herd's lineup, and kept Buffalo at bay with a scoreless frame. Rafael Martin allowed a hit and a walk in the ninth, but Darrell Ceciliani's ground out to first ended the night for Buffalo.

Matt Dominguez went 3-3 with a walk, while Jesus Montero picked up a pair of hits in the contest.

For the Chiefs, eight of their nine hitters had at least one hit, with Michael Taylor going 2-5. Steve Lombardozzi reached base four times, with a single and three walks.

The finale of the Bisons' four-game series with Syracuse will take place on Thursday, with first pitch set for 6:35 p.m. Scott Diamond is schedule to duel A.J. Cole in what will be the final regular season meeting between the two clubs this year.

BISONS NOTES:

Pitcher Mike Bolsinger, acquired by the Blue Jays at the trade deadline from the Los Angeles Dodgers, was optioned to Buffalo on Wednesday… Junior Lake has driven in a run in five of his last eight ballgames… Erik Kratz threw out his first baserunner as a Bison in the sixth inning, the 30th would-be base stealer nabbed by a Bison backstop this year… Bobby Korecky passed Fernando Cabrera with his 137th career appearance with the Bisons, becoming the clubs' modern era leader in games pitched.

Manchester - Three New Hampshire Fisher Cats players made debuts on Wednesday afternoon, and all delivered hits in a 9-6 win over the Akron RubberDucks at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.

Veteran Ryan Lavarnway drilled a two-run homer in a three-run fifth inning that gave the Fisher Cats an 8-4 lead. Rowdy Tellez added three hits, drove in a run and scored two to lead New Hampshire (49-60).

The Fisher Cats sent nine men to the plate in the bottom of the first inning, scoring five unearned runs. Richard Urena reached on an error and scored on a single by Harold Ramirez for a 1-0 lead. Rowdy Tellez doubled and Dwight Smith Jr. walked to load the bases. In his first at bat with New Hampshire, catcher Reese McGuire ripped a bases-clearing double and scored when Emilio Guerrero reached on an error.

Akron cut the lead to 5-4 in the top of the third inning. Todd Hankins singled and Greg Allen doubled. Both scored on a double by Jordan Smith for the first runs against New Hampshire starter Shane Dawson (7-4). After Jeremy Lucas walked, Mike Papi delivered a two-run double into the left field corner.

In the fifth, Urena, just promoted from Advanced-A Dunedin, tripled, scoring on a Tellez single. Lavarnway homered off losing pitcher Julian Merryweather (3-4) for an 8-4 lead.

After the RubberDucks (55-56) cut the lead to 8-6 in the top of the sixth, Dwight Smith Jr. plated a run in the bottom of the seventh with a single. Ramirez, who along with McGuire was acquired by the Blue Jays earlier this week in a trade with the Pirates, walked, moved to second on a single by Tellez, scoring on the Smith single for a 9-6 lead.

Urena and Ramirez both finished with three hits, part of a 13-hit attack for the Fisher Cats.

New Hampshire relievers Jason Berken, John Stilson and Wil Browning shut down the RubberDucks, combining for four scoreless frames. Browning earned his 10th save.

The final meeting of the season with Akron will take place on Thursday at 7:05 p.m, An Atlas Fireworks Show presented by Primary Bank will follow the game at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. RHP Wilmer Font (0-0, 1.80) is the scheduled starter for the Fisher Cats against RHP Michael Peoples (8-4, 3.60) for the RubberDucks. Chad Hillman ‏@HillmanChad 3h3 hours ago

Max Pentecost just scored a run. Immediately ran down the tunnel holding his left arm. Looked like left shoulder issue.

Chad Hillman ‏@HillmanChad 2h2 hours ago

Hopefully it is nothing, but it was an awkward slide where all his weight may have been on it. Didn't look good.

Chad Hillman ‏@HillmanChad 2h2 hours ago

Jake Thomas is on deck. Looks like he is coming in for Pentecost. Something to monitor.

Chad Hillman ‏@HillmanChad 2h2 hours ago

Pentecost just returned to the bench, grabbed some seeds and stood at the rail. May just need a day or two hopefully.

I thought people were saying Ramirez was out of shape, he looks fine to me.

He's not out of shape, he just (supposedly) has the body and athleticism of someone in their mid 30s. Stocky, not quick.

Looks like Roger Clemens torso on Dustin Pedroia's lower half. Gotta stop skipping leg day.

But yet the scouting report on his speed has him at a 55/60.

45/40

ed: there are conflicting reports on his speed. I'm seeing older reports that have him with plus speed. Possible he has gotten slower.

also possible ppl are just scouting SB or SB% stats

who knows

I wonder if they plan to flip Ramirez. We definitely needed a catcher like McGuire in the system though. Will see if he hits. Our priorities at catcher is defense and framing. If we can rest Martin without losing that I would call that a win. We have had Thole. I mean almost anybody is upgrade. And McGuire still probably a full season away from the majors anyway.

Are any of these prospects, including the new pickups, ready to play in the show as early as 2017?

I don't think there is anyway to predict this. It is very common for players to get called up directly from aa, or go to triple a for a month and get called up. It is also common for players to get stuck in aa for a couple years...

If they perform they could get called up any time in 2017... depending on major league needs.
