Laika Community Moderator Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 Yessssssssssssss Rich Hill is a f***ing stud
King Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2016 Author Posted July 29, 2016 Rich Hill? Better late than never I guess. He's good.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 He's good. Oh no doubt. Just kind of a shame that the Jays didn't outbid the A's in the off season. Six million was a goddamn steal even with some question marks.
Melvin Verified Member Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 They are kicking tires on every SP on the market, nothing to see here folks
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 What happened to Oakland having no problem offering him the qualifying offer unless they get blown away. Jays are looking for value not overpayment.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 He's good. He's just a late bloomer. At the tender age of 36 he finally has it. I have every confidence in him. Hope we get him.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 The fact that Hill is so damn cheap is probably a big draw for the Jays. The terms of the Grilli and Upton trades suggest that adding players without increasing payroll is a priority (I'm assuming here that what Atkins was keeping under his vest was that the Jays aren't giving Melvin any money this year).
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 Gibby gonna get hit with a fine He's not talking about signing him as a free agent. The tampering thing was just a joke. Gibby shoudln't be leaking stuff to the media though.

Maybe that's the angle the A's are using to get more than what the q.o would bring them?
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 I would be pumped if we got Hill, hopefully they would tack on a solid reliever as well (bring back Rzep as a loogy?)

Six million was a goddamn steal even with some question marks. Maybe Hill figured that he could have a solid year in OK - pitchers ball park and knowing OK's habit to sell players knew that he wouldn't have to worry about a QO as he'd be traded. Try to max out a final contract after a good year + some w/ boston. Not saying this is what happened, just saying maybe even if the Jays outbid he'd still end up an A's.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 I would appreciate if Gibby stopped flapping his gums lol. I am guessing its harder for a GM to do his job when his manager keeps saying who they want.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 It's possible the A's feel he might accept the QO if they offer it, and can't afford to take the chance.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 I would stay away from this guys market. Bean will 100 percent sell him now though, and he's crazy. Stay tuned.

I thought I read/heard they were paying the 5 this season and nothing next year.

I think that depends how big of an outbid it was. That being said, it's not a stretch to think that Hill was using Oakland as a launching pad to more money but he doesn't have to do that if he's offered the kind of good money he was looking for in the first place. Anyways, I get what you're saying. If he was going to take a cheap deal, it wasn't going to be from Toronto.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 I thought I read/heard they were paying the 5 this season and nothing next year. I heard that Atkins was not disclosing those details.

vic city Verified Member Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 I'm a big Canucks fan and Jim Benning got fined earlier this summer for making comments about Stamkos and Subban. Stamkos was going to be UFA in a matter of days and Subban was signed long term. So one would have potentially been signed as a free agent and one would have to be traded for. Either way, I don't believe you can make comments like that about any player under contract with another team.
