Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 If the blue jays had payroll flexibility I still don't understand why they didn't sign a free agent reliever this offseason like Clippard. ....or like Mark Lowe
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Probably Pentecost That's what I'm thinking too
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 @ShiDavidi #Padres will be paying down a very substantial sum of Melvin Upton's contract, helps minimize risk for #BlueJays. That mean good prospect
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted July 26, 2016 Author Posted July 26, 2016 Per Shi Davidi: #Padres will be paying down a very substantial sum of Melvin Upton's contract, helps minimize risk for #BlueJays. #BlueJays see Melvin Upton as a complementary player who gives them versatility, speed and OF defence, plus an extra year of control
vilifyingforce Verified Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Davidi reporting Padres paying a substantial sum of Uptons salary.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Upton can be a pretty useful player if used properly. Even when he's not starting he can be used as a defensive replacement, pinch runner, pinch hitter in certain scenarios, etc. The guy does bring some skills to the table. Perhaps the best news out of this is this all but guarantees we don't have to watch the mushroom this year. Assuming Upton sees his share of starts in the outfield and pushes Jose/Saunders DH, Edwin to first and Smoke to the pine, there is absolutely zero room for Colabello. Yeah, I'm okay with a DH rotation between Jose, Edwin, and Saunders. Smoak gets to be late inning defence or a PH. Spot starts here and there too. Pillar can also get a day off or two without us having to watch Zeke tumble around CF. Apparently the Padres are eating a lot of cash too, but no numbers yet.
vilifyingforce Verified Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 lmao. It's pointing that way Ang.
labadee Verified Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 the real question remains: how many points do we get in the HR contest if he hits a dinger tonight
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Yeah, I'm okay with a DH rotation between Jose, Edwin, and Saunders. Smoak gets to be late inning defence or a PH. Its just not acceptable. So done with it, and yet he is resigned....in July?! He cant touch a FB up in the zone and cant hit a breaking ball to save his life. Painful.
admin Site Manager Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Stupid trade. Why not bring up Pompey and see what he can do before worrying about emptying the farm system even more.
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted July 26, 2016 Author Posted July 26, 2016 Stupid trade. Why not bring up Pompey and see what he can do before worrying about emptying the farm system even more. Because Shartkins are obviously in win now mode and they don't think Pompey is ready.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 I'll cry if the prospect is Vlad jr
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 I'll cry if the prospect is Vlad jr It won't be, he isn't in A ball.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Stupid trade. Why not bring up Pompey and see what he can do before worrying about emptying the farm system even more. One prospect is hardly emptying the farm system. Its not going to be one of our top 5 prospects. Even if it is Pentecost unless he gets back to catching hes still very much a wild card.
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted July 26, 2016 Author Posted July 26, 2016 I'll cry if the prospect is Vlad jr Guaranteed its not him. I'd vomit all over my boss at work today if that was the case.
admin Site Manager Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Because Shartkins are obviously in win now mode and they don't think Pompey is ready. Win now mode you go for a little better than Upton. And like I said why not bring him up until the deadline. If he hits you're good, if he's terrible, make a move. This is going to cost us prospect(s) we're all going to be mad about, guaranteed.

Very good post If we are in the prospect of winning now and trading good prospects we should be trading them to shore up the pitching
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Stupid trade. Why not bring up Pompey and see what he can do before worrying about emptying the farm system even more. because Pompey can't catch the ball, and we need a versatile OF to help our bench in the playoffs. Zeke, Lake and the Italian suxx both sides
Rusty_Savage Verified Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Some people are insufferable. The FO doesnt make a trade and they are criticized for not helping the big league club. Then a trade is announced and before we know all the deets, some idiot behind a computer screen guarantees that no one will like it
mellowgold Verified Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 I laughed too. So assuming we run with 13 position players... Martin Thole Edwin Smoak JD Tulo Travis Barney Saunders Pillar Jose Melvin and....Zeke? Do we still need Zeke? Or is there a chance Goins comes back?
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Zeke is effectively finished
Rusty_Savage Verified Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Didn't they say they weren't against a third catcher.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Zeke is basically in Junior Lake's position from yesterday: suddenly the fifth OF. He's the most expendable piece at this point.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 you can't just dump 1.1 war Carrera. Yeah he was sucking up lately but that's because he was exposed and playing everyday.
Governator Community Moderator Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 I laughed too. So assuming we run with 13 position players... Martin Thole Edwin Smoak JD Tulo Travis Barney Saunders Pillar Jose Melvin and....Zeke? Do we still need Zeke? Or is there a chance Goins comes back? We still need Zeke IMO. He's the only thing that represents speed off the bench and that will help us.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Good I want more position players. I'm so tired of the 8 man pen. Our starters throw a ton of innings. Plus you can always bring guys up from Buffalo.
mellowgold Verified Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 I have to wonder what the consensus is as to who the more useful 25th man is at this point:. Zeke or Goins? I suspect come playoff time it'll be Pompey, but for now, who do you take assuming it's one of the two?
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 We still need Zeke IMO. He's the only thing that represents speed off the bench and that will help us. Upton can still run. Solid BsR. Thanks for the memories Zeke.
