FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 If the talk is true, and he is available, do we have enough to outbid say a Texas or Houston. Would Stroman, Guerrero and some other pieces be enough? You have to kick tires on him if you are Shapkins don't you?

Is Sanchez + SRF + Harris + Pompey or whatever even good for us? Maybe if we had more depth.
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 I'm assuming any deal would require Sanchez + the best 3-4 prospects in the system. But even that might not be enough. I think they'd hold out for an elite young bat (Benintendi or Mazara).

I'd imagine we'd be looking at Sanchez, Tellez, Reid-Foley, Greene and probably Pompey and I'd also agree with you that is probably not a strong enough offer.
nextyear Verified Member Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 I would rather have Sanchez than Sale. Sale seems to be a bit of a loose cannon, and I think Sanchez is probably already better than Sale at a much lower price.

If they tried to make the trade for Sale, I think it would center around Stroman and 3-4 minor leaguers not named Vlad.
Inklink Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 I don't know, how many extra retro jerseys do they have?
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 Given that we have 6 sp (Hutch in the minors) and guys who could come in if needed in Chavez and probably Biagini, I'd rather just pick up a really good BP arm or two.
Cyborg Verified Member Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 Yes we have the pieces, but at least one would have to come off big league roster.

Well yes I agree, but Sale isnt just a one year guy and it'd probably cost us one of Sanchez or Stroman anyways.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 Sanchez + Travis + Pompey and SRF

nextyear Verified Member Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 If you compare the fangraphs stats for Sale and Sanchez, Sanchez has been just as good as Sale this year at a fraction of the price. http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=10603&position=P http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=11490&position=P

Apparently they're listening, but not motivated on both.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 but track record. Whoever they get for Sale isn't going to have much of a ML track record either.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 So any package around Travis and Stroman woudlnt be enough I assume

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 So you no longer think he is a massive ******* and biggest dick in baseball, as you posted yesterday? You can pretty much live with a complete ******* on your team (as long as he isn't literally hurting his teammates) if he also happens to be one of the best pitchers in baseball, and has a track record of being such, unlike Sanchez. I don't really know how you can say that you believe Sanchez to be already better, albeit he is much cheaper but not necessarily more valuable as a result. Chris Sale has been a legitimate ace for years now.
