Chris Colabello didn't waste any time making his mark upon returning to the Bisons.

In his first rehab game with the Herd, the first baseman belted a ball beyond the flags in left-center field to tie the game in the opening inning. However, Norfolk piled on after that, eventually taking Monday's contest at Coca-Cola Field by a score of 11-8.

Though he arrived at the park in the early afternoon, Colabello's equipment didn't complete the trip until the final frame.

"I was adlibbing until then," said the 32-year-old, now five days from becoming eligible to return to the Blue Jays.

"There's something about using someone else's equipment. It makes you not think about it."

With an 11 day layoff since he last appeared in a game, Drew Hutchison had his worst start off the year. Unable to shake off the rust, the righty was tagged with six runs on eight hits before leaving the game with runners on the corners and two out in the third inning.

Hutchison appeared to be dealing with a blister on his throwing hand throughout the brief outing. Manager Gary Allenson even sent the trainer out to look at it after back-to-back home runs by the Tides in the top of the third.

"He peeled it back there," said Allenson of his starter's thumb.

"You could tell by him looking at it after every pitch there that it was bothering him. Just to be safe, we got him out of there."

Ben Rowen filled the middle three frames admirably for the Bisons. The submariner lasted a season-high 3.2 innings and had faced the minimum through 11 batters before three seeing-eye singles led to a Norfolk run, forcing him from the game.

"That kept us in the game right there. We just couldn't hold them," added Allenson.

Switch-hander Pat Venditte, after an error loaded the bases, punched out a pair to end the top of the seventh, keeping the game at 7-5.

However, after Matt Dominguez brought the Herd to within one on his 12th home run of the year, the Tide needed just three batters to load the bases off of Venditte in the eighth before Dariel Alvarez cleared them all with a bullet over the left-field wall.

The grand slam put Norfolk up 11-6 but Buffalo was still not out of it.

Colabello picked up his second RBI with a liner to center field for a single to make it a four-score contest. A single and a walk then followed to load the bases, bringing the tying run to the plate.

Darrell Ceciliani, who had already reached in all four plate appearances, ripped a single to into right field to bring home Colabello and make it three-run game. But, the rally was cut short as Matt Dominguez was thrown out trying to go from first to third on the hit.

Colt Hynes prevented any further damage, keeping the score at 11-8 with two strikeouts in the ninth.

That was before Norfolk's Jason Stoffel picked up his fourth save of the year with a 1-2-3 bottom half.

Tides' starter Ariel Miranda also struggled off of irregular rest. The 27-year-old lasted just an inning longer than his counterpart and was charged with three runs on six hits and a trio of walks.

The win ended up falling on Edgar Olmos who fanned a pair of Bisons while giving up two runs over two innings.

BISONS NOTES:

Ryan Goins went 2-for-5 and cashed in three runs in his third rehab game with the Herd. With a single in the second inning, Domonic Brown extended his hit streak to six games…Matt Dominguez is now one home run ahead of Jesus Montero for the team lead…The combined 30 hits is the most in a game involving the Bisons this season, eclipsing the previous high by one.

DUNEDIN, FL - The Dunedin Blue Jays (17-8) won two games on Monday night against the Charlotte Stone Crabs (12-11). Dunedin took 14 minutes to wrap up a suspended game with a 4-3 tenth inning win followed by a nine-inning 4-1 victory.

After last night's contest was suspended following the ninth inning, LHP Alonzo Gonzalez (W, 4-4) tossed a 1-2-3 tenth to turn it over to the offense. CF Anthony Alford led off with a double against RHP Mike Franco (L, 4-4) in the home half. With one out and the bases loaded, SS Gunnar Heidt singled up the middle to give Dunedin a 4-3 win after just 14 minutes of play.

In the second game, RHP Chris Rowley (W, 8-2) tossed seven frames, allowing only an unearned run. The Jays took an early 1-0 lead in the second when 3B Dickie Joe Thon rocketed a home run off the scoreboard in left-center against rehabber RHP Brad Boxberger.

The Stone Crabs tied the game in the top of the fifth when 2B Andrew Guillotte saw a ground ball kick off his glove at second, bringing 3B Cristian Toribio home.

Dunedin came right back in the bottom of the inning against pseudo starter RHP Benton Moss (L, 4-7), scoring a pair. With two on, none out, RF Josh Almonte bunted Thon and Guillotte over to second and third. Alford then brought in Thon with a sac fly. With two down, DH Richard Urena noticed a shift to pull and pushed a bunt down the third base line, scoring Guillotte to out the Jays up 3-1. Guillotte scored once more on a passed ball in the seventh which provided the final score.

LHP Jose Fernandez (H, 8) and LHP Colton Turner (S, 6) combined for two hitless innings to lock down the win for Dunedin.

Game three of this four game set is Tuesday afternoon at 11 AM. RHP Sean Reid-Foley opposes the knuckleball pitcher RHP Jeff Howell.

BURLINGTON, IA - Michigan State University product Jordan Zimmerman beat out an RBI fielder's choice in the sixth inning, and the Burlington Bees (13-12, 45-50) finished a three-game sweep of the Lansing Lugnuts (15-10, 51-44) with a brisk 2-1 victory on Monday night at Community Field.

The game took just two hours and six minutes to complete, closing a 1-5 Lugnuts road trip to the Western Division's Bees and Peoria Chiefs.

Zimmerman, drafted in the seventh round in June after playing one year at Michigan State, came to the plate in the bottom of the sixth against Jon Harris (Loss, 8-2) with the game tied at 1-1, Michael Hermosillo at third and Brennon Lund at first. Shortstop J.C. Cardenas fielded a high hopper and fed Ryan Metzler at second base for a force on Lund, but Zimmerman barely nosed out Metzler's throw to first, avoiding the inning-ending double play as Hermosillo scored.

Bees right-handers Tyler Watson (Win, 3-3), Mike Kaelin and Sam Holland (Save, 4) kept the Lugnuts off the scoreboard for a combined four innings in relief of starter Jaime Barria, wrapping up the victory.

Justin Atkinson went 2-for-3 with a walk and a fourth-inning RBI single for the Lugnuts in the loss, and Conner Panas drew two walks to reach base in his 14th straight game.

Starting pitcher Harris finished with 5 2/3 innings, allowing four hits and two runs (one earned), with no walks and three strikeouts.

Kirby Snead followed with 1 1/3 perfect innings, and Andrew Case struck out two batters in a perfect eighth.

Tuesday is a day off for the Lugnuts before they open a six-game homestand against the Clinton LumberKings on a Winning Wednesday, starting at 7:05 p.m.: if the Lugnuts defeat the Kings, each ticket is good for a future admission to a 2016 Lugnuts game! Left-hander Angel Perdomo (3-3, 2.51) starts for the Lugs, opposed by Clinton right-hander Nick Neidert (6-2, 2.60).

How come Tellez got pulled? Hopefully he didn't get hurt.

He needs to go to Buffalo soon. Help them with their playoff push. He did have a triple and that's unusual so I guess will find out.

Bo is f***ing rediculous. I know its just the GCL but he's putting up some monster numbers fresh out of high school.

I didn't realize Vlad Jr was born in Montreal. Does that not grant him automatic citizenship. Either way he would be eligible for our World Baseball Classic team if he decided to play for us.

Couple of notes/questions:

1. Is Barreto's brother in our system?

2. Max Pentecost is hitting well this year. I guess he's old for the league, but still encouraging. I see he's DH'ing. Has he caught at all and/or will he ever catch again?

3. Jon Harris is having a very strong season. Anything to see here?

1. Not his brother

2. He's going to start catching in games later in the month, maybe August if things go to plan

3. Yes but he has a long road ahead of him, the upper levels of the minors

If Harris put up these numbers last year - would we be happy that our first round pick is performing as expected? I'd certainly like to see him get a taste of AA by the end of this year.

I love that Colabello managed to get into both a High A and a Triple A box score on the same day. Gotta love finishing up old games just to mess with people's heads for a second.
