Not sure if thread worthy, but i found this astonishing, yet possibly realistic given the free agent pool after 2018.

2. Machado (3B)

3. Harper (LF)

4. Donaldson (DH)

5. Bird (1B)

6. Judge (RF)

7. Gregorius (SS)

8. Castro (2B)

10. Jorge Mateo (#1 prospect) SS thrown into the mix also.

 

They didn't discuss starting pitching and the batting order may not be accurate.

Too be honest I can see them getting both Harper and Machado. They are both going to be young and just entering their prime and the Yankees will spend out the ass for them. That will be a billion dollar off-season for the Yankees.

Donaldson, Machado and Harper are likely to resign with their current clubs by that time. With all the revenues around, no way any of them reach free agency--no way Toronto, Baltimore or Washington give up their franchise players easily. This isn't the early 2000s..

 

Judge and Sanchez aren't sure things, with Judge's K issues and Sanchez's D..

 

And FYI, the Yanks don't have that kind of money--due to poor attendance, luxury tax issues, Yankee Stadium mortgage payments and huge revenue sharing bills, the Yanks can no longer afford to keep payrolls this high--I've heard that they're operating at significant losses with a $230-$240M payroll, and the Steinbrenners want to get under the tax, which is at 50% at $175-180M($189M with benefits), and likely to increase further next CBA.

 

In addition, until the Yankees show signs of putting a capable team on the field, free agents will avoid the Bronx. Look at the mess in LA and NY with the NBA's Lakers and Knicks--even with money, free agents won't go there because the teams stink.

O's and Nats are going to do everything and anything to keep them. This isn't the pre-revenue sharing years where the Yankees outspend everyone.. even smaller market clubs have a shot to keep young stars.

This is the most ridiculous thing i've ever seen. The Yankees financial advantage and their dominance over a FA market isn't what it used to be 10 years ago. I don't follow Yankee fandom much but is this a real thing among their fans? Are they okay with the current mediocrity because they think they're building towards something 3 years from now? TBH, that lineup is very meh outside of Machado/Harper/Donaldson.

I don't mind Harper becoming a Yankee, and (as a STH) seeing him playing at the Dome 9-10 times a year in his prime. I just don't want Trout ever donning NY pinstripes haha.
