New Hampshire (26-32) had a chance in the bottom of the ninth when Christian Lopes led off with a single and was bunted to second, but Tyler Rogers slammed the door for his eighth save to give the Flying Squirrels (22-37) a second consecutive win over the Fisher Cats. Richmond's Ryder Jones lifted a two-out, solo home run in the top of the first inning to give the Fisher Cats an early 1-0 lead. The Flying Squirrels put together three consecutive hits in the top of the third inning for a 2-0 lead. Christian Arroyo doubled, Jones singled and Ricky Oropesa knocked in the run with a single to left field. New Hampshire scored in the bottom of the third inning. Jorge Flores singled, moved to second on a groundout, scoring on a single by Smith Jr. Richmond added three more hits against Fisher Cats starter John Anderson (L: 2-5) in the top of the fifth inning. Carlos Moncrief singled and scored on a double by Angel Villalona. Ali Castillo drilled an RBI single to make it 4-1. The Fisher Cats rallied to 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning. Jorge Flores walked and Roemon Fields singled. Melky Mesa singled to score Flores and Rowdy Tellez delivered Fields with a single. Matt Gage (2-5) picked up the win for Richmond. He worked six innings, allowing three runs on ten hits. He walked one and struck out three. Tyler Mizenko and Ray Black carried the game to Rogers, who recorded the final five outs. Anderson allowed four runs on ten hits for the Fisher Cats. He issued no walks and struck out four. Chris Smith and Matt Dermody combined for three innings of scoreless relief for New Hampshire. http://i.imgur.com/pYk0gW0.png http://i.imgur.com/eoEEsgl.png http://i.imgur.com/tatqDXa.png http://i.imgur.com/PtBjSG7.png http://i.imgur.com/J9DtnwF.png http://i.imgur.com/SARH9la.png http://i.imgur.com/w3LHTMz.png http://www.milb.com/assets/images/8/9/4/178336894/cuts/Thomas_9163_8d03ta4a_tnywbhva.jpg EASTLAKE, OH - The Lake County Captains (35-24) overcame six errors with a 20-hit barrage, rallying past the Lansing Lugnuts (29-28), 14-12, in a wild Wednesday matinee at Classic Park. Seven of Lansing's 12 runs were unearned, with a four-run first inning and a five-run third inning buoyed by a pair of two-out errors from Lake County third baseman Sam Haggerty. The Lugnuts built an 11-8 advantage, but the Captains scored two runs in the sixth to shave the deficit to a run before rallying for a 14-11 lead in the eighth on consecutive two-out, two-run singles by Martin Cervenka and Jose Medina off Dan Lietz (Blown Save, 1; Loss, 4-1). Lansing crept closer on a Gunnar Heidt RBI triple in the ninth before dropping its second straight game in the series. The Nuts used three pitchers in the game, none of whom was spared from the Lake County hitting assault. Starter Tom Robson lasted two innings, reached for seven runs on eight hits and allowing home runs to Nathan Lukes and Francisco Mejia. Ryan Cook gave up seven hits and three runs, striking out four, in the next 3 1/3 innings. Lietz pitched the final 2 2/3 innings, allowing five hits, four runs and three walks while striking out three. Lake County starter Sam Hentges gave up seven runs (three earned) in just 2 1/3 innings before he was sent to the showers. Captains long reliever Brock Hartson (Win, 5-2) stepped up significantly in Hentges's stead, working 5 2/3 innings out of the bullpen and holding the Lugnuts' offense to three runs (two earned) on five hits and three walk. Billy Strode (Save, 1) relieved Hartson for the 27th out. In defeat, center fielder Lane Thomas went 1-for-4 with three runs scored, slamming his team-leading fifth home run of the year. It was Thomas's fourth home run since the start of June. Lansing and Lake County will play the finale of the three-game series at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, with left-hander Angel Perdomo (2-1, 1.28) dueling with Captains right-hander Matt Esparza (6-2, 3.63). http://i.imgur.com/ecGa3rY.png http://i.imgur.com/RRFbO4S.png http://i.imgur.com/F4ec6dO.png http://i.imgur.com/4ssPmwS.png http://i.imgur.com/igVco6m.png http://i.imgur.com/I74EPrT.png http://i.imgur.com/0EDOp1B.png Kings 3 Stars of the Night 1) Wade LeBlanc: LeBlanc keeps proving to be a valuable depth SP in Buffalo as he pitched 7 innings Wednesday striking out 9. 2) Meliton Reyes: The 18 year old RHP had an excellent professional debut pitching 3 innings and striking out 6. Reyes was signed out of Panama this past February. 3) Conner Greene: Greene, who has a very disappointing season to start the year, had one of his better starts striking out 6 over 6 innings. Kings Platinum Arencibia 1) Tom Robson: Robson started the season with Dunedin, where he pitched 16 innings with 22 walks and a 7.01 FIP. After not pitching there since the end of April, he returned to Lansing for his start today. He got torched for 8 hits, 7 earned runs in 2 innings.

bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 Was just going to say... Does he have a spot on the roster though? I think the dust needs to settle for a bit because Carrera has proven he can be a suitable 4th outfielder for now... Wade Leblanc - Is this guy worth keeping an eye on? just looking at his statline right now and he seems to be doing well. I also see hes 31, so Im getting the impression that hes just a perennial minor leaguer.
admin Site Manager Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 It's a tough spot. You don't want to bring him up and he struggles, but same time you don't want to hold him back if he's ready.
Laika Community Moderator Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 I would just leave him in Buff for now, let him get really, really hungry. Maybe Saunders will blow out his knee in a month. Pompey seems to be sooooo damn streaky.

Might be a decent SP option if injuries start to hit, but hopefully it doesn't ever get to that point, since he's probably pretty low on the SP depth chart.

I think Leblanc at his age would have to be completely knocking your socks off before you could justify calling him up for a start over Hutch.
King Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2016 Author Posted June 9, 2016 Is there any legitimate hope for Max Pentecost at this point?
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 Is there any legitimate hope for Max Pentecost at this point? Give him this year as a pass...next year is where he takes off or goes into injury derailed career. Pompey should just stay in AAA until September callups. We will need him next year when we lose Saunders and Bautista. Let him get consistent ABs for the first time in a few years

He'll be 24 next season, it's do or die at that point.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 Bautista 0.8 WAR so far Pompey as full time RF likely comes close or exceeds that

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 Bautista 0.8 WAR so far Pompey as full time RF likely comes close or exceeds that No it doesn't. The defensvie upgrade isn't even close to worth as much as the drop off with the bat would be.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 No it doesn't. The defensvie upgrade isn't even close to worth as much as the drop off with the bat would be. Bautista's bat hasn't been great...if Pompey could hit like he is expected to, it would be equivalent or better than what Bautista is putting up to this point in terms of overall WAR. I expect Bautista to finally get back into a grove soon, so Pompey won't match what Bautista is hopefully going to put up. If Bautista hits like this the rest of the season he might not even be a 3 WAR player.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 Pompey where is the pop at? Singles champ right now I like that he's getting on base. Taking a lot of walks. He needs to be a smarter baserunner and stop being lazy in the outfield.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 No it doesn't. The defensvie upgrade isn't even close to worth as much as the drop off with the bat would be. On field value is closer than you think. Then when you consider Pompey would make league minimum, it's a no brainer. Pompey would provide more value to the team. Let Bautista walk, extend Saunders (now), run with a Saunders, Pillar, Pompey OF in 2017. And if the Jays s*** the bed over the next few weeks, make the change next month
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 The person Pompey ought to be replacing in the lineup is Encarnacion. Bautista should Split DH/1B Duty with Smoak, still getting full time at bats, with Pompey getting in the outfield. EE isn't helping this team right now, and if he can be traded for a good relief arm in a baseball trade we should look at it.

Bautista is going to fall off a cliff soon (ie. as soon as someone signs him to a FA contract).
