Good. I was saying yesterday he's probably been playing injured for a while, and the Quad strain just compounded things. He knows how much time he misses thanks to injuries, so he was probably trying to play through it to avoid a DL stint.

 

I think a DL stint was inevitable though. Hopefully he can take the time to recover properly and come back as his former self, even if its only for 3 months.

His injury came on an uncontested stolen base. Its been that kind of year. Hopefully he doesn't miss his return to Colorado in late June.

I can't remember who said it, I think it may have been Dave Cameron of Fangraphs, but they said that Tulo is a victim of his work ethic. They said that he's complicating things for himself, instead of just being what he was in Colorado, someone who looks to swing aggressively until his eyes tell him differently.

 

I think one of the best focuses he can place to attempt to right his ship, at this point, is cerebral.

I wonder how close we are to a Tulo for Matt Kemp trade. Seriously, as bad as that sounds, that's the only contract I could see another team willing to trade in order to take Tulo's deal. Horrible.

Yeah exactly he needs time away from the team to just be with himself to work like he did before. His solution to his struggles isn't to take a step back but to tinker and we've seen that with his leg kick, and stance changes. What he needs to do is relearn the strike zone and simplify approach. Literally see ball hit ball, not trying to get a perfect pitch to hit. No one is giving that perfect pitch to him

Not close at all. I mean give me a break. Even at his nadir, Tulo at least plays a premium position that is otherwise filled by Barney or Goins. There's no upside to trading him for an expensive player who doesn't fill a need. Even if you're in the Urena as shorstop of the future camp, he's not really that close and you need a shortstop in the interim. There's really no reason not to ride it out with Tulo for at least a year or two.

Tulowitzki has been flinching on pitches even over the middle of the plate all season. It is almost like he is always worried about getting hit; it makes me wonder if he is seeing the ball as well as he should. Now he has started making errors; what is going on with Tulowitzki.

I agree. We have Pillar in CF who hands down is better than Kemp defensively. That means we're trading a shortstop for a corner OF... Yeah no thanks I'll take my chance with Tulo

I mentioned Kemp as a comparable bad contract. I don't want that to happen, nor do I expect Shapkins to even consider it.

 

My point was, Tulo has an awful contract and has little to no value. I don't care how much bigger MLB contracts get, a SS in his 30's who is injury prone and already declining is not valuable. The Jays would need a miracle (or a stupid GM) to get rid of that contract without taking back an equally bad one and/or getting close to Hoffman/Castro back.

Shields can opt out after 2016 (and the SP market in free agency sucks this winter so there's a chance he will). Even if he doesn't opt out, he's a much shorter contract and likely far more tradable. Plus, Preller wasn't as derpy this past winter as he was two winters ago.

 

I honestly can't think of one team who'd trade assets and take back Tulo at 4/80 for his age 32-35 seasons. We'll have to find the equivalent of Reyes and take that contract back, most likely. A part II of a Vernon Wells trade would be great, though.
