bottom line was that osuna looked easily hittable today. Not what you want to see in a closer

That's really very far from the bottom line

Caught the end of this one. Bullpen derping all over the place. Storen, who is terrible and who the Dodgers already had a nice healthy look at, comes in to face two lefties, then Osuna comes in to clean up the mess. Then Chavez comes in for the 9th and eventually faces a lefty, gives up a hit, and then is pulled for Girodo against... another lefty. Then Girodo is pulled for the righty Turner, who is followed up by the lefty Gonzalez. Was Gibbons even looking at the lineup card?

Why are Cecil and Girodo even employed by the Blue Jays if you won't use either of them in a clean 8th inning in a 1-run game? Cecil's been skidding, but dude's got to earn his job back anyway.

Like, even if Girodo has to face Kike Hernandez that's a better prospect than Storen vs. Utley & Seager.

I think Cecil is injured

His wife's having a baby so he's missing the San Fran series. Haven't heard anything about an injury, but surprising he wasn't used since he'll be taking 3 days off after today.

Yeah $50 million on payroll is better than $100 million. They both look like replacement level.

You are comparing Tulo this year to nothing of Reyes... Right now the Rockies are paying Reyes' salary to hold his empty locker...

You can't compare the two. One is playing in the big leagues and one is probably about become Josie

All this from the 1 hit he gave up?

After today's game Tulo has negative WAR

One concern for Storen is his fastball velocity is well down.

I am not sure why at the very least the Jays don't switch the roles in the pen. Leave Storen as a mop up guy and use Floyd in the 8th as a set-up guy. The guy has been a solid pitcher throughout his career and won't get phased pitching in tough situations. Yes his arm is held together with duct tape - but he doesn't have to be the only set-up guy. Use him whenever he can be used in that role. Chavez can be the other set-up guy. Use these two in high leverage situations - Use Venditte for lefty match-ups.

Hutch can't go to the pen - he needs to start in AAA and get back on track to come in here and start when Sanchez and Stroman's innings limits come into effect. Use Biagini in higher leverage situations too. Basically go with the guys who are getting people out and use them first - then go to the guys struggling. Cecil and Storen shouldn't be used in games that are within 3 runs in the 7-9 innings until they can show us they can get anyone out.

Could be, but he was throwing in the BP with 2 outs in the 9th

I didn't notice him warming, but at least he's not injured.

Even so, Girodo is on the team for a reason. If Storen had shown any ability to be lights-out then absolutely use Storen. But we have a "loogy" in Girodo and a premiere (but struggling) lefty in Cecil. Utley and Seager aren't exactly 9-slot scrubs either. I get the impression that Gibby is trying to protect Cecil from any opportunity in which he can blow another game, but there are only so many tools in the shed.

Pretty sure everyone watching Storen jog in from the pen knew the likelihood of maintaining the lead suddenly dropped. "Maybe the line drives will land in gloves," is what I thought.

Gotta feel for Storen. You could see him sitting on the bench watch his career unwind. Only thing, he doesn't really k of Gibbon's yet. He doesn't realize he still has 60 more appearances this year when he should have 0.

as bad as Reyes was I don't ever remember him having a negative WAR at any point as a Toronto Blue Jay.

He's 0.0 fWAR and 0.2 bWAR. I understand your point but... it's not quite accurate and he's projected to provide 2.2 going forward. His BABIP is .183 so if you believe Colabello was a luckbox, you can't deny Troy's numbers will move to the mean.

Did we ever believe after 33 games our lineup would look like this though?

MS: 0.6 WAR

JD: 1.6 WAR

JB: 0.5 WAR

EE: 0 WAR

JS: 0.4 WAR

TT: 0 WAR

RM: -0.5 WAR

KP: 1.6 WAR

RG: -0.6 WAR / DB: 0.5 WAR

I mean, f***.

^ I think there are things seriously wrong with this team. Either EE Tulo and Martin have declined to replacement at the same time or here is a greater issue that has just not been discovered yet

That's crazy

The strength has been the starting pitching - the component most of us expected to be the worst

When the offense gets going...

Martin, EE and TT all doing so little offensively. That won't last.

We are lucky to be 1 game under when you throw in the pens numbers. BoSox and O's are rollin pretty well.

Our bullpen has not as horrible as it seems. They just seem to blow up in high leverage situations making them seem worse then they actually are.

In terms of actual performance so far the Jays pen ranks 14th in FIP (3.81). Predictive stats like SIERA and xFIP say they should be better going forward (xFIP 3.70 - 9th in baseball) and SIERA 3.30- - 8th in baseball). Also getting Loup, ect back is only going to help. The bullpen should be fine going forward if used properly.

Could anyone have predicted we would be carried by starting pitching over the first quarter of the season?

Those numbers are better if you have 3 elite arms and a couple mop up shitterballers. We have a BP full of mediocrity at the moment who can't get us out of jams combined with an offense who can't give us a lead. There's really no defending the BP here, Osuna has been great at times and Chavez is a K machine. Really, Osuna/Floyd/Chavez are the only ones we should even consider calling upon in a 1 or 2 run game.

Where is the run support this year? The biggest difference is no run support yet, even Thole could challenge Martin at batting. Combine that with a choking Bull Pen and the Jays are loosing again in later innings.......

Yes. The offense (especially EE Tulo and Martin) has underachieved. This is an elite lineup that's scoring like an average one.
