Back to back to back blown save. Gibbons saw all the bullpen arms; now is time to choose the best of them.

We all know it's Leon that's going to be gone. Biagini, Morales, Osuna, Cecil, Floyd, and Storen are fine.

Uh oh.. Morales may have an injury according to Gibby--perhaps Morales may go on the DL for Estrada instead.

Especially blown 5+ leads with motherf***ing Marcus Stroman starting... is this real life?

Sucks. Marcus mostly did it himself, though. He really wasn't very good. Watching him battle Shaw in that last AB was agony.

Then again, Chavez gave up a laser HR to Brock frickin' Holt, which is pretty bad in itself (even though Holt is pretty pesky).

Yeah lots of things went wrong thought the Holt AB was the turning point. I don't understand the point of having a loogy and not using him especially when you have a high leverage lefty for later too.

Gibby just said Morales didn't "feel right" warming up today...that kinda f***ed everything up.

Yeah Chavez was probably getting warmed up for the next inning and got thrust into the Morales situation instead. Have to give Gibby a mulligan on that one.

Get Cecil ready, then?

If it all happened so fast that Cecil didn't have time to warm, I will have to grudgingly lay off of Gibbons this time. Chavez vs. Holt really isn't an overmatch anyway. Really just wrong time, wrong place for Jesse.

This should not be underlooked -- John Gibbons gives the most PAs to Kevin Pillar and doesn't trust him to make anything happen with no outs and a man on base.

Instead, Troy Tulowitzki and Michael Saunders made outs to end the game with nothing doing on the bases in the ninth, an inning late of a potential rally. It's not about having a crystal ball, but getting better hitters up more frequently is the sounder move that Gibby refuses to make.

Our leadoff hitter has a 0.273 OBP and 83 wRC+, which isn't far off his projected 0.309 and 94 wRC+. This is Yost bad.

I still think with a 5 run lead and a sinker ball pitcher we should have kept Stroman in to at least face Holt.

Chavez and Morales were warming up a the same time presumably with the idea that Chavez would follow Morales instead he got thrown into the fire when Morales couldn't go. Really can't blame Gibby here.

Yes that would have been the alternative. Gibby said Stroman looked gassed.

Is that what it was?

can you think of ANY other reason not to bring in a loogy?

edit: read after that Morales didn't feel right. I guess that explains why they didn't use the lefty.

almost as bad as using a 5 game sample size worth of statistics to try and make a point.

Yeah I'm with you there.

Those numbers are actually bang on with the rest of his career.

The point is that Pillar is projected to be below average, didn't provide anything worthy of being a #1 hitter in 2015, and doesn't even have some blazing hot streak going (even going back to ST) to justify his lineup promotion. His performance thus far isn't some eye-opening surprise, and Gibby probably doesn't realize that feeling the need to treat his lead off hitter like a NL pitcher AB is a big, red flag that this setup isn't ideal.

5 games? These 5 games have gone about as expected given the previous 250 games of data suggesting that Pillar is not good enough to lead the team in PA.

Lead off triple. Gibbons say "Kid can hit the ball, and run the bases".

he has a .250 babip...just bad luck! I'm not saying he should be the lead off hitter, in fact I changed my stance on this a couple weeks ago. I'm saying it's a bit early to be bringing out the I told you so attitude.

It's not an "I told you so" thing - everyone who follows this team knows it's stupid to hit him first. It's just an annoying thing to watch play out.

Does Cecil always start slow or does it just feel that way?

Seems that way. But his mind is probably more on family right now than in the game, apparently his pregnant wife had a fall a few days ago. Think everything is okay, but probably rattled and on his mind.
