burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 Unless he knows he won't get to start thanks to Verlander Kershaw Sale Kluber etc Judging by who pitched for the team the last WBCs there will be plenty of spots. Volgensong, mitchell boggs, David Hernandez, Tim Collins, Ross Detwiler, Vinnie Pestano to name a few. A lot of the big names don't even go. WBC would be the perfect opportunity to have multiple starters and just have them pitch 1 time through the order.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 This seems incredibly dumn... are they considering him to start next year or something? There's just no need for this. I don't get it either, unless he is going to throw at 80-90% or something, then not so bad. The Jays would have listed strict conditions on his use?

Governator Community Moderator Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 I wonder how many Jays will play in the WBC. I think I saw Stroman is going to pitch for USA. Other possibilities. USA- Donaldson, Sanchez.. JD might skip out because of the injuries he has last year and is getting older. Mexico- Osuna, Estrada Dominican- Liriano Canada- Martin, Pompey.. I doubt Martin goes to play this time considering he didn't go last time Saunders and EE probably play for their respective countries but who knows if they'll be back. Colabello will play for Italy
BorrowedTime Verified Member Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 Please ? What do people think ? The rumors are crazy ? Is he buddies with Ortiz ?

BorrowedTime Verified Member Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 To be honest it was an honor just being nominated
sdyment Verified Member Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 i hate to continue this thread, but with beltran signing in houston, does that leave NYY v TOR for EE?

Gary Verified Member Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 But the burning question is whether EE is buddies with Ortiz??

I thought Sanchez confirmed he'd be playing with Mexico. I know at least they asked him to pitch the qualifier and the Jays refused.
LGBJ29 Verified Member Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 Sounds like Stroman is also considering pitching for Peurto Rico (apparently he might be eligible) http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/blue-jays-stroman-plans-pitch-world-baseball-classic/ Just made his decision

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 3, 2016 Posted December 3, 2016 Think I'll go to Miami to watch the WBC. Canada, USA and Domnican make for a pretty stacked round 1.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 Russ Martin committed to playing for Canada at WBC!
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 Russ Martin committed to playing for Canada at WBC! He only didn't catch last time because he had just signed with the Pirates and didn't want to learn 2 pitching staffs in Spring. Was still willing to go as an infielder but Pirates and Team Canada said no. Hopefully this finally squashes the whole notion that Martin doesn't want to represent his country. The big ones for me are Freeman, Tallion, and Paxton.

Offence will still be good without Freeman but he obviously would make it a lot better.
