The Donaldson trade was a god damned heist. I hate AA, but he destroyed Beane on that one. Hindsight makes it look even better but it was a killing even at the time. Unless Barreto becomes a HOF, I'm not sweating that.

It was a great trade, but it will only be one of the most lopsided ever if Barretto doesn't pan out. What if he wins 3 MVPs? Won't be lopsided then.

What if Lawrie wins an MVP and Graveman gets into a Cy race? Why not just assume the best-career scenario for the other guys involved too? Even 1 MVP is a huge stretch for Barreto. Way likelier that, if he pans out, he ends up as a pretty good major leaguer at around the same point JD is entering his twilight.

Lawrie back to sucking at the plate for the ChiSox with an 84 wRC+ and K% of 30. yikes.

We made out like bandits on JD no matter what happens, not to mention we don't have a sniff of the post season, like we did in 2015, without him.

You are making my point. The trade isn't the most lopsided in history because we do not know the careers each player, especially one still in the minors, will have.

Well I don't have any opinions on ranking it among all-time lopsided trades. It's just that you just said one day we'd think "wtf", and I'm saying the trade was completely reasonable from the Jays' end. Even future BJMB members should be able to look back and see that getting JD was a no-brainer at the time, regardless of what Barreto does in 2023.

That I agree with.

It's not the most lopsided because JD is too old and not good enough and that's not meant to be a criticism.

Sanchez could remain a starter if he doesn't lose effectiveness:

MLB.com: What is the latest on Sanchez going to the bullpen?

Atkins: I think often times in the industry, people will follow norms that obviously can be informative, but we have to make sure we individualize it and are working off the information that Aaron and the league and offences that are playing against him are giving us. So, how he's feeling, how he's performing objectively and subjectively; not necessarily the results, but in terms of release point, in terms of velocity and spin rate. As we see those things potentially changing, then we'll start to consider what the best thing is for him. This is an easy one for the most part, because he has a chance to really be a game-changing starter for the rest of his career and we wouldn't want to impact that in a negative way.

Not good enough. Enough said. I'm not engaging in ridiculousness.

ignoring everyone else (which isn't that hard to do) would 4 years of control of Donaldson for 3 years of control for Lawrie be more lopsided than 5 years of control for Pedro for 2 years control of Delino? By straight WAR it's a 20 fWAR net for the Expos (24.4 to 4.4). Right now Donaldson vs Lawrie is 12.3 to 1.1. It really might get there.

A lot of times comparing trades is like trying to figure out greatness of all time, to many factors to really declare a real winner, optics timelines league play teammates etc etc etc etc!!!

That's why we play the games!

No players performance is or will be exactly what it is if the trade was never made.

Would Josh Donaldson been the

MVP last year if in Oakland or not ?

Did hitting in Rogers and in our lineup not help?

That's another great response from Atkins.

Someone asked me about Sanchez the other day. It's almost a given we're going to lose EE and Jose at the end of the year anyway...this is the year to go for it and based on the current landscape of our rotation (with Stro and Happ being average/below average) - we're going to need Sanchez in the playoff rotation if we have any chance. It might not be so much about protecting Sanchez long term - but how do we ensure he's in top form come playoff time? We can't afford for him to be completely gassed and ineffective. That should be the goal this year IMO.

Remember when all the casual fan boys were crying for AA's head when Mr. Red Bull was traded? Everyone was like "This sucks, he was Canadian and played with heart and hustle! Who is this Donaldson guy, he can't hit any homeruns!" Pretty sure everyone on this board was extremely pumped at the time of the trade and JD has proven to be the best trade in Blue Jays history.

A guy who had a 9 win season is not good enough guys. NOT GOOD ENOUGH!

You do realize that Babe Ruth had a 15 WAR season and double digit seasons of more than 9 WAR, right?

My issue has nothing to do with babe Ruth. That's between you and boxy, even if what boxy said was truly dumb

Why did you even respond to me then?

I don't remember any casual fans being mad about that trade tbh. Besides some crying little girl most people knew how good JD was.

If Rodney holds on to this then this loss doesn't lose any ground we have made so far!!! What an opportunity it would have been if we cashed in today though..
