So what happens if Hutch comes up and gets blown up two starts in a row? Whats the consensus on calling up Wade Leblanc instead? He does have a 1.51 ERA through 13 starts.

Maybe the better option is to put Chavez into the rotation as he has been solid recently.

We play 19/24 games at home in July and although the sample size isnt large, Sanchez has been better on the road. He has 3 starts left this month which should push him upto ~ 105 innings.

Maybe they shut him down at the end of the month... If we could get Cecil back and have him regain his form from last year our bullpen would look pretty good.

Regarding Chavez, a lot of it depends on how the rest of the bullpen is doing. If we're still relying on him as the primary setup man, then it could be difficult to stretch him out.

Agreed

Most of us saw him or Floyd as the 6th starter in a punch. But Floyd hasn't been as good enough, and Chavez hasn't been used for much more than one inning very often.

1. We would miss Chavez in the pen, even with Sanchez there

2. Don't know if he could comfortably go 5-6 innings this year

How are people going to feel if it's August 10th we are tied with the Redsox for the division lead and we pull Sanchez out of the rotation

I think that is basically throwing in the towel

Why do so many feel we can't win with Hutchison on the mound? ffs it's not throwing in the towel and with Sanchez / Chavez / Grilli / Osuna / Storen he doesn't need to go 7 innings... This team is built around the line up as it's core and it's heating up right now back to it's old self. If by August 10th this line up can't get us 6 runs a game we'll be in trouble now matter who pitches.

Depends how he is throwing..... You act like their is a guarantee that he is going to pitch like this all year which he could yes.... But if he comes back down to a middle of the rotation guy then i don't think there will be much out cry. There is a lot of time between now and august. Like i said there is zero purpose in discussing this now.

Better than I'll feel when he misses 2017 with TJS.

Nothing is guaranteed but Sanchez has been really good this year best in majors in some metrics

Even just looking at him it's hard to deny he progress he has made

Oh defiantly. I am just saying a lot can happen in 1-1/2 months so there is zero reason to discuss it right now.

This year is going to be our peak competitive year. We have too many free agents and our offense going forward is going to be a big question mark. So it will suck shutting down Sanchez. We might end up regretting it like how many in Washington feel about Strasburg in 2012.

Didn't Strasburg have a hard capped limit and they shut him down entirely? I'm not sure they do with Sanchez considering it seems like they just want him to work less hard the second half being in the BP. Otherwise I don't understand the benefit of being in the BP for 2 months vs just using all his innings/pitches up as a starter which I think yields more value.

The best players on the team going forward are Donaldson, Pillar, Stroman, Sanchez, Osuna, Estrado

Maybe Tulo and Travis if they can regain form. For better or worse Martin is still going to be there.

We are losing 3 - 2.5 win DHs and a 41 year old knuckleballer. I think the players that are leaving, are actually not that hard to replace...

I would agree, but they are doing this on the assumption that we can use him in the playoffs.

Yeah, that makes sense. Maybe I'm too use to not making the playoffs to think of that lol.

Rex Hudler says in a few years we will be comparing Ventura to Pedro

I needed a good laugh today.

Really good arm but a 2 cent head on Ventura.... Generally does not make for a great pitcher

Its pretty shocking to me with how bad our offense has been and with our pen struggles juxtaposed against red hot offenses for the BoSox and O's that we only sit 2 out.

You have to think our offense will have its time as #1 again this season and our pen is performing better overall. Unless there is a rotation meltdown we are looking pretty good going into the rest of this season. In terms of the rotation, having Hutch, Floyd and Chavez as depth gives me confidence they will be fine if not great.

I think this is realistic if they can give us 5.5 runs as I see this defence as being equal or slightly better than last year. It still would be better to obtain a SP end of July from one of the sell offs that will be happening than counting on Hutch.....

Ya I am. Grant, I know their pitching issues, but they are scoring about 6 runs a game. That leaves a lot of room for error. Price and Wright have been pretty solid. The O's pen and Tillman have been solid for them. Our rotation has kept us in this division even with Stro and Happ coming apart at the seams lately. I"m still pleasantly suprised when you look at how bad and/or unlucky our pen has been. And our offense is starting to look more 2015 lately. Martin looks like a brand new hitter. Was a shame Tulo went down when he was on a roll with the stick. It will be a good test for them tonight.

I'm not surprised, but it's just a different way of looking at it I guess. For all of the hype about the Orioles offense, they have the same RS/RA numbers as us. Non Tillman/Gausman starters have an ERA of 6. Price has solid peripherals, but his results are below average thusfar, leaving Wright as their only good starter. We've seen it in the past with the Jays, bad pitching and D will catch up to you no matter how many runs are scored.

Russell is something else eh? He had a 7 wRC+ in April. Has a 150 wRC+ in June. Somewhere there is middle ground I'm sure lol.

Pretty crazy lol. That -0.3 defensive WAR is more alarming though. I'm surprised that his Caught Stealing numbers have declined so much from his career norms.

Like you said, Tillman and Gausman should be above average but then they are basically hoping the rest of whatever 3 they use can put up a 4.5 ERA or less.

The Sox are in a better position. Price is an ace (lol at you calling Wright their only good starter!) and Wright looks good too. You could do worse than Porcello as the #3. Rodriguez can probably be fine on the backend (our #5 is Dickey and he's better for what it's worth) but then they don't have anything. They'll probably make a trade.

Happ and Dickey are probably backend guys but they should be pretty decent as the #4 and #5. They are definitely better than the O's or Sox's #4 and 5. Estrada looks like a stud, might be better than anyone but Price for AL East contenders. Stroman should improve and Sanchez while he lasts has been a stud. Hutch coming in for Sanchez will be some dropoff but he he'd probably be the O's #3 SP and the Sox's #4 SP.

We are definitely in a better position than those teams as far as the rotation goes. With the lineup turning around and a very manageable schedule to close out the first half of the season it's looking like the Jays should be in AL East contention the rest of the way.

He was funny haha. I wished Blair spoke against that but he kept quiet, last week he as all over Ventura

You misunderstood what I meant. Wright has been their only good starter so far from a results perspective. I'm sure Price will allow fewer runs sooner rather than later.
