Spoonovic Verified Member Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 .@Sportsnet's MLB roster keeps growing with @jonahkeri joining Blue Jays Central throughout season as MLB analytics expert. Debuts April 8 Rogers has done a pretty good job of assembling some talented people. Ben Nicholson-Smith, Shi Davidi, Stephen Brunt, Arden Zwelling are all pretty great. The recent additions of Jonah Keri and Dan Shulman are even more amazing. Rogers gets a lot of flack around here but we should give them credit for this.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 solid hire Can't wait for a Keri / Zaun head to head opinion segment.
bendera3 Verified Member Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 Can't wait for a Keri / Zaun head to head opinion segment. Keri will give statistical reasoning on why a move was made and Zaun will say it "just doesn't feel right."
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 Keri will give statistical reasoning on why a move was made and Zaun will say it "just doesn't feel right." Keri is a very easy going guy. This won't be like Hayhurst. There won't be fireworks. Keri will use humour and self-deprecation to defuse potential arguments.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 (edited) Who's that Keri guy? He wrote a pretty good book about The Rays and an excellent book about The Expos. He was also the main baseball writer for Grantland. He's a Montrealer originally. Edited April 1, 2016 by KingKat

KinofChaos Verified Member Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 Jays getting with the times, good s***. Can't wait for a Keri / Zaun head to head opinion segment. The "manalist" will disagree with most analytics.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 he is so f***ing uncomfortable in front of the camera...the love won't last long.
crazy47larry Verified Member Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 awesome. love jonah keri. cant wait for all you guys to link me to his latest jays articles.
Inklink Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 Because sportsnet didn't have enough Jewish guys covering baseball. Good hire.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 I wonder if he will ever do any interviews. I love his podcasts and he seems to get the best out of the players he has on.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 Most, will hate him. I doubt that. He's pretty balanced. He never discounts scout opinions completely and he's not actually "an analytics expert", not by any stretch even if Sportsnet wants to call him that. He's just a regular sports writer who understands their importance, in part because he's also covered economics.
Nafro Verified Member Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 Who's that Keri guy? He's the United States Secretary of State silly!
TheHurl Site Manager Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 Most, will hate him. Speaking of hated...with Sportsnet seemingly affiliating themselves with PitchTalks (and the April 7th lineup is actually pretty fantastic) is it possible that they'd be stupid enough to hire Stoeten?

That wouldn't really be stupid. Stoeten has his niche.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 That wouldn't really be stupid. Stoeten has his niche. Can you put someone on air that just regurgitates what other people on air say? Plus he's ugly as s*** and dumb as f***! Legitimizing him as a journalist would be just wrong.

Legitimizing him as a journalist would be just wrong. There are far dumber people that have been legitimized as journalists. It's time to let go of the bitterness people.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 There are far dumber people that have been legitimized as journalists. It's time to let go of the bitterness people. I think Stoeten is just too lazy to take a legitimate job like that.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 I think Stoeten is just too lazy to take a legitimate job like that. That's fair but there's a history drunk lazy *******s making it in baseball (and I mean that affectionately).

Legitimizing him as a journalist would be just wrong. I doubt it especially since he hates Rogers and tweets his hatred about them lol. They already have Tao of Stieb who writes articles from time to time as their "blogger"
