The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 I wanna see what Sanchez does in ST. So far 2 IP with 0BB and 3SO. How did he look in his 1st outing? There's always that chance he took a step forward over the winter.

Moo3 Verified Member Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 If he's not the 5th starter put him in the pen... amirite or amirite?

fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 Does Hutch have options? If so let him go down to AAA. Put Chavez as #5, throw Sanchez and Floyd in the pen. Put Floyd as a swingman and Sanchez as a one inning guy. If we need him to start because someone's injured and both Floyd and Hutch bomb then send Sanchez down and get him stretched.
SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted March 4, 2016 Author Posted March 4, 2016 You Saskatchewan folk aren't very original, eh? Nope, short of things like working socialism, universal health care, and the Cobalt-60 cancer bomb, we're pretty boring and uninventive.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 Chavez #5, Floyd long man, Sanchez and Hutch in Buffalo.

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 It will probably be Chavez which I'm fine with. Steamer projects he and Hutch to have abut the same FIP. Hutch had an unspectacular but decent K and BB rate 2015 but BABIP was .340. At this point hard to know what he will be but if he has options still he might be in AAA again. Sanchez no...for all the reasons mentioned. Floyd. It would be great if he can bounce back.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 This is probably a better question to ask in 2-3 weeks after we see them pitch a few times. But for now I say Hutchison.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 And I'd like to see all of Sanchez, Hutchinson and Osuna in AAA to develop Hutchison is 25 years old. 400 MLB IP under his belt. At this point he's either an MLB pitcher or AAA fodder. I don't see where he could develop unless they have a very focused goal for him. Kinks should be sorted in out in the spring.

He has an option, while the other 5 starters (Chavez included) do not. Tough luck for him. He should definitely be above Sanchez on the starting depth chart though.

This team does not have the pitching depth to have him in the minors and if they did like you said Sanchez and also Osuna would/should be leading way there before him.

Why would you waste him in the pen? He should get at least 20 starts as the number 6.

I get what you're trying to say but I don't think this team has the luxury of depth to stash a guy like Hutchison for a rainy day. Start him in the pen and if someone else sucks or gets injured, stretch him out and give him the starting job back.

Rusty_Savage Verified Member Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 The way Chavez has pitched in the first few months of the season in past years means not giving him the shot is stupid
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 (edited) The way Chavez has pitched in the first few months of the season in past years means not giving him the shot is stupid I'm in the Chavez or Hutch....not Sanchez and wouldn't it be great if the old Floyd returns camp. However, its kind of ironic when you look at Chavez's age and his K and BB rates from 06 to 2013 when it finally started to click for the A's. They were pretty s*** for a lot of it...much like Sanchez's. Although Chavez had some ML success. edit: I cant believe 40% have selected Sanchez. Edited March 4, 2016 by BigCecil

I can't believe that 4x the people have selected Sanchez over Hutchison. Someone wants to pick Chavez, ok I can see their point. But come on, Hutchison has at least proven he can start at the MLB level. Even when comparing Sanchez and Hutchison's SP stats last year when Sanchez was perceived to perform "ok" relative to expectations and Hutchison was perceived as a big disappointment, Hutchison still had the better stats pretty much across the board. Floyd should only be in this conversation if he earns it during the spring.
