AncientDiety Verified Member Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 So you'd rather only have 5 starters? Yikes....that's not what I said..at all. I'd rather have quality pitchers period. The 2 ate not mutually exclusive.
jays76 Verified Member Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 Gallardo's getting s*** on a little too much. I think he'd actually be a better fit with us over Happ as he's evolved into a decent groundball pitcher over the last few years. He'd be ok here with his old Milwaukee buddy Estrada (especially with this infield). The unfortunate X-Factor as mentioned was the pick tied to him. What's done is done so we have to pray for a decent year out of our starters. This rotation could potentially be a f***ing disaster but let's hope we get another solid year out of Estrada and renaissance years out of Dickey & Happ also.
D.J. BluRay Verified Member Posted February 24, 2016 Author Posted February 24, 2016 lol... so you'd fault the SP coming off 3-2 and 2-1 finals? See, you're dumn. No no no... I said I can't see them winning games in a 3-2, 2-1 fashion... In other words, the offense is going to mash most of the time to win games.

They're gonna have to... I know we all have all the faith in the world in Stroman, but he isn't exactly a lock for putting up front of the rotation numbers either. The rotation makes me nervous.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 Not comfortable but I think management did the best they could with what they had to work with. If were making a run we can always improve mid season.

Not worried about Stro he'll be fine. I think Estrada will be ok too, he developed some phenomenal chemistry with Navarro which might be understated but I think he's coming into his own at this point in his career. Dickey will be awful to start the season as usual but will pick it up in mid to late summer when the humidity helps his knuckler dance. Imo the real wildcards will be Happ (was his late season run with the Pirates a mirage?) and the rest of the guys. Will Hutch be hot garbage again? Will Chavez be a bust coming back here? Will the rest of the depth options be useless? Who knows maybe Sanchez will find his groove (and control) after putting on that muscle to snatch the 5th rotation spot..
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 I'm happy for where it's at. There's a lot of depth at SP now which should perform adequate enough to have us in a playoff spot. I'm looking forward to see Hutch and Sanchez take steps forward as starters this year.
BigRed Verified Member Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 I think I lost 25% of my braincells from this thread. This rotation is better than going into last year -- that's all you can really ask for.
Jayzfan79 Verified Member Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 i love how most people throw the rotation under the bus and we haven't even had 1 pitch of spring training yet....no we don't have a starting rotation on paper like the Dodgers, but the guys that we have can be average and get the job done with the lineup that we have. hell, i am not trying to be a homer but i think our rotation is going to be above average and better than most people think.

But now I see his name is in red permanently thankfully.

Great point No Stroman, and counting on Hutch to step up with a big year The problem is we got spoiled with Price and Stroman 1-2 at the end of the season and in the playoffs (neither of whom were on the opening day roster last year). This rotation as it stands is a step back from that obviously.

We should be ok but an injury or two and some garbage stretches by a few of these mediocre pitchers and we could be in serious trouble.

A couple injuries to any rotation would put teams in big trouble. You could say that about every team in our Division except the Os because they are already in serious trouble.

OBPlover Verified Member Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 Here's what would have been better: Pay David Price (or Maybe Greinke, if he's willing) the 30-35 M per year they command. Make the trade for Chavez. (what's the point of trading a middle reliever for CHavez if he's just going to be another middle reliever?). Then convert Sanchez to be a starter. There's still a little bit of money left over, stretch the budget a little and grab ONE of Dickey, Estrada or Happ. So your rotation looks like Price Stroman Dickey Chavez Sanchez

You've also made another massive assumption that Sanchez can start at the ML level. Your math is also poor as Price at $31M/year is $6M more than they spent on Happ & Estrada.
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 How do you guys feel about our bullpen? 2nd best in the division top 10 in the AL?

AncientDiety Verified Member Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 How big would it be if Hutch actually takes a big step this year? For once it would be nice for a young jays player become a stud, seems like it's been forever.

AncientDiety Verified Member Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 stroman? f*** i'm dumb lol....other then stroman though seems like it's been few and far between. Stroman still needs to prove he is for real for an entire season though.

OBPlover Verified Member Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 The flaws are you've made an assumption that Price wanted to come back to Toronto. In an interview, he said he was willing to listen. However, no offer was even made. You've also made another massive assumption that Sanchez can start at the ML level. It's not really a massive assumption since he did begin his career as a minor league starting pitcher. Your math is also poor as Price at $31M/year is $6M more than they spent on Happ & Estrada. No, I actually said "stretch the budget a little", Jays can't add 6 million in payroll? We aren't talking 60 million.
