ValiantJaysFan Verified Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Have you looked at Carter's stats from 1994-1998? Is Joe Carter not the most over rated Blue Jay of all time? I believe we got someone else in the same trade for him. Can't remember the name though. Romero Ablamor or something.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 No because it's going to be a talking point and become a huge distraction throughout the entire season if they just let it sit there and linger. I think you're smarter than this but you are doing nothing to justify my position on that. What are they supposed to say? Jose said these are my numbers, they aren't changing. There's one of a few things the Jays FO/ownership can say. Yes we will meet your demands, or no we're not gonna meet those demands. To jump at Jose's demands would be idiotic, because I'm sure the years & dollars he floated are unreasonable. And to say they aren't going to meet Jose's demands would create an even bigger firestorm and may cause some animosity in the clubhouse all year. All because some fan wants to know.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Now a Jay Bruce is Joe Carter. Lmao I'd actually prefer Bruce, because he doesn't act like a f***ing bird like Carter always did and does.
ValiantJaysFan Verified Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 All because the fans and season ticket holders who pay for tickets and merchandise and watch on tv hiking up the price of advertising and make this a profitable franchise want to know. ftfy Your argument is basically that fans aren't important.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 The worst part is that the very same people who are screaming for Jose and Edwin to be re-signed will ditch the team as soon as they have a losing season down the road. Very true. They want the team to bury themselves financially in players who cost upwards of 20m per because we're the Dodgers of the North. And as soon as the Jays can't afford all these guys and have to move them the love fest is over. But Blue Jays fans foreva!!!!!!
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Arden Zwelling @ArdenZwelling 1m1 minute ago Michael Saunders: "As far as I know it’s just rumours and speculation. I’m a Blue Jay right now & I expect to be a Jay going into this year"
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Arden Zwelling @ArdenZwelling 17s18 seconds ago Saunders says both Ross Atkins and John Gibbons spoke to him this morning: "They assured me that they're just rumours and nothing more." If that's the case then it never really got to the point that Saunders got medicals.

Thats kind of bushleague to tell him that if it was just the medicals of a prospect stopping the trade from going through.

I don't think it's always a full body scan

GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 ftfy Your argument is basically that fans aren't important. Not as important as you seem to believe. And you as a fan can be in the know. But you'll be in the know when the team wants you to be in the know.

highhard2 Verified Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Valiant speaking on behalf of the bandwagoners. It's actually you and the rest of quirville that's jumped on the Shatkins bandwagon. They've given up more than they got back in both trades they've made so far. There are legitimate reasons for concern and trading anything for someone who's been a negative asset for two seasons in a row won't do anything to ease those concerns.

I don't think it's always a full body scan Yeah they probably just went over this before offering him arb and shared that with the Angels. You don't just make an offer for a guy like Saunders without asking a question or two about his health. They wouldn't trade for a player like that in the first place if they weren't comfortable with a bit of risk.

Sorrow Verified Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Cool. So customers aren't important. Got it. Of course they are. But they're coming for a product (Bluejays Baseball) and a winning team will bring more people in than re-signing a single player will.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 So not only are we complaining (without details) about a trade that didn't happen, we're complaining about hypothetically picking up the 2017 team option for the player that was never actually acquired? Time to nuke this forum from space. f***ing shitshow.
ValiantJaysFan Verified Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Of course they are. But they're coming for a product (Bluejays Baseball) and a winning team will bring more people in than re-signing a single player will. Right, I agree. So say that. "We will evaluate the situation and make every effort to ensure we make a decision that is in the best interest of the organization to sustain our success moving forward." Better than "I'm not gonna talk about that." This isn't even a big deal but since people jumped down my throat about it, here we are.

Typically (as someone who does negotiations for a living) you give a response much closer to the second response than the first, just in a way that people don't feel insulted. More like "At this juncture we cannot comment on the issue". I really wish that I could be snarky to some of my clients a lot more often.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Because I pay for tickets, fancy cable packages and merchandise, so maybe I have a right to know if any effort is being made to resign the face of the franchise? But that wasn't my point. I bet you're one of those people that run around telling cops and government employees that you pay their salaries.
Governator Community Moderator Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 I kind of wish we could swap Jay Bruce for Joey Votto in this thread title to be worthy of a 37 page thread.

GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Cool. So customers aren't important. Got it. Are the customers who were absent from following the Jays for decades important? Because they sure didn't act like it for decades. But a resurgence and playoff run and all of a sudden they never left. But it's like they got amnesia for 20 years and talk about the Cito, Carter and Alomar days. I hate people with amnesia.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Please explain why it matters what Atkins or Shapiro say on the Bautista situation or Bruce/Saunders/prospects trade?
