Nice. I'll update the wager thread and you can confirm.

Weren't planning to pay ahead. I trust my MC comrades.

Deal is dead broski.

There's no way this deal is dead if the minor league medical is the hold up. They'll just swap someone out if they want Bruce badly enough.

Why meet the media at all if all of your answers are going to be "I won't talk about that"?

So, no matter what the media asks you. You must answer truthfully because media........and media broadcasts to fans. Fans deserve to know exactly what's going on because???????

What's going on behind the Jays closed doors is none of your business.

By the way, most of the analysts agree with me.

The latest is Stephen Brunt: "I'm not sure I would give up ANYTHING for the difference between Jay Bruce and Michael Saunders."

Well unlike Blair, Brunt isn't a moron.

Most corporate shills are a little more nuanced.

He is obligated to make those media sessions. He's not obligated to give the media intricate details about failed trades or contract talks.

Bingo!!!

The media doesn't need or have a right to know what's going on. And the fans being the audience to the media don't need to or have a right to know either.

Bautista right now = $13 million I think right? He's likely asking for $25m over 4 or 5 years. Or at least that's the assumption in the media. If true, $13 million + Bruce's $13 million (or $17 million, doesn't really matter for the sake of this argument) = $26 million = enough money to sign Bautista.

I guess I can see your point about it being a one year risk, but if a prospect is going back the other way, even a B or C level prospect, I think it's too much because that same prospect could be flipped for something else, maybe as part of a package for a reliever down the stretch.

It's still not 17

Because I pay for tickets, fancy cable packages and merchandise, so maybe I have a right to know if any effort is being made to resign the face of the franchise?

But that wasn't my point.

Answer questions, or don't do it. What's the point of repeating "I'm not gonna answer questions about X" a hundred times when he knew he was only gonna get questions about X?

Maybe, once he answers that he isn't gonna answer, the media guys might clue in that he's not gonna cave and answer. Instead of asking the same question a hundred times.

After reading this thread I honestly need to question how some of you are actually able to access the Internet, I'm amazed that you're not struggling to put on pants.

Trading for Bruce is not a sign that the team isn't going to re-sign Bautista and seeing it that way is hilarious. Bautista and EE are both players that should be DHing at this point, Toronto has a need in the OF in 2017 (our three OF that might be on the team in 2017 are question marks), and Bruce offers a fill for that at a fairly reasonable price (trade wise) and is someone you could make the argument for that a bounce back could occur. He's more likely to play 100+ games in 2016 as well and for a team that lacks good MLB quality depth that's not a bad thing.

If you think this is going away because little Rossy Atkins doesn't want to talk about it, you are very wrong.

Why are the 20000+ fans who weren't showing up for Jays games for decades but came out of the woodwork for two months of winning Jays baseball and proclaiming themselves huge Jays fans gonna keep making him remember it?

No because it's going to be a talking point and become a huge distraction throughout the entire season if they just let it sit there and linger.

I think you're smarter than this but you are doing nothing to justify my position on that.

Some of your analysts have said that it won't be a problem at. Despite what you may think, star players go into walk years without a contract. It happens league wide, it's not just a Toronto phenomenon.

I don't think he is at least as good though. And I would prefer Pompey get a chance to figure out big league hitting because even the ups and downs of his development are likely still going to be more productive than Jay Bruce, for defence alone. Bruce has power, but he also strikes out way more than he walks and say he works out...he has a $17m option next year which if we have room for that, why not let Dickey walk next year and use his salary + the $17m we'd be spending on Bruce and sign Bautista or EE? Or if you need a LF, there has to be an average, replacement level player out there that would come way cheaper than Bruce to back up Pompey and we have a few in our system already.

Bottom line is there's better ways to spend whatever they're spending. This team did just fine without Saunders last year, so I don't see why we need to get a horrible player like Bruce to replace him. There's a reason Cincinatti is dumping him, and when you're not good enough to play for THAT team...

You're really hating on Jay Bruce.

Yet the Jays had our own black version of Jay Bruce back in 1993. You know, Jays legend Joe Carter? You know s*** average, no on base, bad fielding, K's too much, only hits HR's Carter?

The worst part is that the very same people who are screaming for Jose and Edwin to be re-signed will ditch the team as soon as they have a losing season down the road.

But what I'm saying is, if they can afford to pick up that option, then why not use the money and give Bautista his contract? And why not give Pompey a chance? He hit well in AAA and was a baserunning god, why wouldn't we want to develop that? I just think our assets or money or whatever it's costing us to get this guy is better spent elsewhere.

Why give Jose close to 125m to play into his 40's when we could allocate that money to a younger free agent unlikely to break/fall off a cliff like most players do when they're in their late 30's early 40's?

Posted
Have you looked at Carter's stats from 1994-1998?

Don't know if GP researched this or just thought of it out of the blue but it's a damn solid comparison.

Yeah it is. And Carter never recovered... Although Bruce is younger

Not a bad comparison. I would say Bruce looks slightly better as of today, then Carter after 1990. So I wouldn't mind taking a risk on him for 2 or 3 years.

In fact if he performs as well as Carter did, 91-94 I think people would take it... as long as the cost was reasonable.

The problem with Carter was that he was the 8th or 9th best player on the World Series teams and they thought he was a key guy, then kept him as he became on of the worst in baseball.

When the decision is made to sign, not sign, trade or not trade, you will know.

All Blue Jays front office trade negotiations with players and their agents should be broadcast live for fans to listen in on, and then comment afterwards on these message boards.
