gbill2004 Verified Member Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 @Ken_Rosenthal: Sources confirm: #BlueJays trying to acquire #Reds’ Bruce. First reported: @jonheyman.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Hmm, maybe Saunders isn't as healthy as everyone would have hoped. Have to think the Reds pick up a significant portion of his salary.
Superdood Verified Member Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Replaces Bautista in RF next season and then they can put that money back into the pitching staff, hope this happens.
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted February 23, 2016 Author Posted February 23, 2016 @JonHeyman: Hearing proposed deal Is 3-way. Bruce would go to Jays, Michael Saunders to angels
King Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Jeff Passan @JeffPassan 26s26 seconds ago Sources: Blue Jays, Reds and A's were talking three-team deal that would've sent Jay Bruce to Jays. Not anymore but Toronto still wants him. Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal 26s27 seconds ago Source: Bruce deal, if it happens, could involve 3rd team, and that team could get Saunders from #BlueJays. Saunders earning $2.9M in 2016.

I hope not unless Jay Bruce decides to magically stop sucking this year. Replace a 5 WAR guy with a 0 WAR guy. Yeah, that'll be conducive towards building a long term winner. Better off letting Jose walk and replacing him with a minimum wage scrub than doing this.
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted February 23, 2016 Author Posted February 23, 2016 @ShiDavidi: #BlueJays tried to get Jay Bruce in 3-team deal that fell through recently, per source. @JonHeyman @Ken_Rosenthal report Jays still on him
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Curious what the other pieces would be. I think we'd all agree Saunders is a better player than Bruce
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Curious what the other pieces would be. I think we'd all agree Saunders is a better player than Bruce Saunders last year was a better player than Bruce. Now THAT'S saying something!
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted February 23, 2016 Author Posted February 23, 2016 @ShiDavidi: Jay Bruce had #BlueJays on no-trade list, but is said to be willing to head north. OF due $12.5m in '16, option for '17 at $13m w/ $1m b.o.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 I wouldn't hate adding Bruce if were getting him at a discounted price. What do the Reds honestly expect to get for him even if they ate significant salary. Maybe the Blue Jays feel they can fix him otherwise this doesn't make much sense. Especially with our new regime.

Laika Community Moderator Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Have to sneak a guy like Tropeano or Cingrani into it somehow. Saunders for Bruce makes less than no sense.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Angels have some decent BP pieces that could be worth pursuing.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 I was going to say Tropeano but I knew I'd get called out for owning him in BBDL.
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted February 23, 2016 Author Posted February 23, 2016 Bruce at Rogers Centre is exciting!
Frag Verified Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 I really hope there's more involved if this goes through.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Bruce at Rogers Centre is exciting! Not really though, Cincy is an even more extreme hitters park off the top of my head.
Cyborg Verified Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Yes. Bruce is a 0 WAR player who makes 12M next year. Bautista would project to earn around 20M. Meaning we would be left with 8M to put into the pitching staff and hope to get 4-5 wins back (Bautista's production). Seems like a s***** plan. 0 WAR is a little harsh. Probably 0.5 to 1.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 I'm feeling kinda nauseous... I still trust the Shap though
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Bruce at Rogers Centre is exciting! He played in The Great American Smallpark...
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Only way I see him being traded is if Cincinnati eats a ton of salary. And I can't see them doing that unless they got good prospects back which the Blue Jays wouldn't trade and the Angels don't have

Cincinatti should eat some of his money unless they plan on getting almost nothing in return, Bautista isn't getting any younger. I know I wouldn't wanna pay him north of 20 million for his 37-40 years. Plus a change of scenery would do Bruce good I think. I know everyone hates him but I think he has more upside than people think.
xposbrad Verified Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 This club really has no direction if they plan on trading for Jay Bruce. They need to focus on high upside prospects to replace guys like EE/JB, not expensive high risk projects like Bruce who most likely when you factor in his salary, is a very expensive player who is going to just take up playing time and not produce.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 lol Hazel Mae weighs in

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 If Saunders is the only significant piece going back with reds eating a huge chunk of his contract I'm not going to complain. Saunders knee is f***ed. I feel terrible for that guy.
