High Heat Verified Member Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 With a pause in the hands before the swing he was essentially creating a stop in his forward momentum. It's something my coaches have been teaching us recently. Creates loose hands and a fluent motion that work together with the legs.
High Heat Verified Member Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Watch Donaldsons swing in slow motion he brings the bat downward towards his head on the leg kick and then whips it to his back shoulder once his leg lands.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 It's a bit of a curious decision though. He's a vet and his stance has worked for so many years. Why change it? Ripken was the extreme example but he very often changed his stance. I think this leg kick is more about generating power. The 2014 left side torn labrum hip procedure he had may have affected him more than we know. Lower body injuries can have a big swing impact. Votto struggled with power after his knew surgery. OTOH A-Rod had 2013 hip surgery and had better than expected power numbers 2015.

A lot different then playing 162 games.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 That must have been early in the season. Rogers Centre was never that empty in the second half.

That was the hardest hit (exit velocity) home run of last season. April 23rd off of Chris Tillman. http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/6479266/v86407583/baltor-donaldson-hits-a-tworun-homer-off-tillman
