GD Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Depends on $$$ and who we'd trade to create salary room
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 We have probably $6-8M remaining in the budget. If you trade Dickey and backload it, it could happen I guess. I wouldn't bet on it.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Cespedes is too inconsistent for me to rely on him. His defense/offense fluctuates to rapidly. The fact that his value also relies on defense and base running, both of which do not age well do not comfort me. I'm more comfortable with Bautista because I think his bat can age better, as well as his eye. His defense will be very bad, but at least we can try 1B/Dh.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Seems like a great way to ruin clubhouse chemistry, signing a guy to essentially replace somebody that will still be here for another year. But Bautista gains +1 attack when he's enraged so there's that

z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 You don't TELL Jose he is being replaced. We need a LF right now, so its justifiable.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Would love to do this but there just isn't a way for it to work out this season.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Article on the score today. What are your thoughts? Cespedes Donaldson Bautista EE Tulo Smoak Martin Travis Pillar I would rather resign Bautista for the same AAV and lesser term.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 If the money is there, then they should sign Cespedes regardless of what it means for Bautista. Unfortunately, the money probably isn't there.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 On a 1 year deal (say $25M), with Rogers agreeing to increase the budget (knowing there's no long term commitment). Sure.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Would rather use the money left and get Latos (24 starts in 2015 at 3.7 FIP+) for the rotation, and Marcum for the backend of the bullpen. f*** Cespedes. It's time for the Pompey show.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Like Shaun Marcum? I can see him resurrecting his career in the bullpen, yes. 3:1 K:BB rate as a starter in 2015, he likely puts up quite reasonable numbers as a backend bullpen option. Better than someone like Tepera.

Better than someone like Tepera. He coaches university ball now. Doubt he's coming back his interview sounded like he was done.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Shaun Marcun retired. Ah, my bad.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Analysts are predicting the Canadian dollar to go down to $0.59. The budget will be going down next season.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Analysts are predicting the Canadian dollar to go down to $0.59. The budget will be going down next season. Apparently it hit 1.45 US/CAD today but I can only find one site that backs that up

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Gas in the States is close to $.50 if I'm not mistaken $1.80 per gallon in Sault Ste. Marie Michigan last week.

jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Analysts are predicting the Canadian dollar to go down to $0.59. The budget will be going down next season. According to that one analyst at Macquarie Group.. that's a BS prediction. With oil likely to rebound to $40-50 by season's end, our dollar will be back in the $0.73-75 range by year's end. The current low dollar is due to oil being at $28/barrel and people acting like oil is a majority of our economy (which it isn't).. not economic factors. You can't produce oil at these levels--production will go down, reducing the current supply glut and boosting prices.
