Cyborg Verified Member Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 I see no reason why he can't keep a placeholder. It's his prerogative to keep a retired player.
BTS Community Moderator Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 If Frenchsoup feels the need to hold a place for Ortiz he can do so by using a useless player as long as he declares him as the placeholder, it's up to soup to do it I'm not putting any work into it. Should just use some low-minors prospect that stands no chance of seeing a game in 2017 (like Vlad Jr.). Will he be allowed to use his NA slot on this?
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 I see no reason why he can't keep a placeholder. It's his prerogative to keep a retired player. No it isn't. It's the league's prerogative to say you can't keep a player who isn't in the database. The league sets the precedent, not a singular owner.

Will he be allowed to use his NA slot on this? No, whoever it is cannot occupy an NA slot. That is giving him an extra roster spot.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 I can't believe we are having an honest discussion about keeping a retired player. This is bizarre.
Cyborg Verified Member Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 No, whoever it is cannot occupy an NA slot. That is giving him an extra roster spot. Ortiz would be NA if he were in the database, why wouldn't he be allowed to put him there? I really don't understand you not wanting him to keep him and waste an NA and keeper slot.

I really don't understand you not wanting him to keep him and waste an NA and keeper slot. No he wouldn't be NA, because he wouldn't be in the database unless he were an active player.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 I'd like to claim Barry Bonds in case we find the fountain of youth and he comes out of retirement. What's the process for this? Can anyone help me?
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 No, whoever it is cannot occupy an NA slot. That is giving him an extra roster spot. Not really. FS would be wasting his NA slot that he could be using on some actual player that could produce value this year.
Cyborg Verified Member Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 I can't believe we are having an honest discussion about keeping a retired player. This is bizarre. You missed the BBDL keeper deadline. Need your keepers ASAP.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 Not really. FS would be wasting his NA slot that he could be using on some actual player that could produce value this year. And we are going to have to police it all year. It's stupid and sloppy.
Cyborg Verified Member Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 No he wouldn't be NA, because he wouldn't be in the database unless he were an active player. Prince Fielder is in the database and retired before Ortiz, so he could keep him if he wants but not Ortiz because Yahoo is stupid? J.P. Arencibia is in the database and is NA. Javier Lopez is as well.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 And we are going to have to police it all year. It's stupid and sloppy. There's not really any policing to do. Just pick a guy in the low minors as the place holder. Player gets dropped, Ortiz gets dropped. We've had to do this the past couple years in the hockey keeper. Because Yahoo.
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 Speaking as an experienced commissioner - The correct solution here is to kick Frenchsoup out of the league
King Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 Frenchsoup should be allowed to keep Ortiz if he wants to with a place holder. Spittin made the right call.

Player gets dropped, Ortiz gets dropped. We've had to do this the past couple years in the hockey keeper. Because Yahoo. That player can get dropped in a month or two and no one will notice. Are you going to keep an eye on it? Because I sure won't.
Cyborg Verified Member Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 That player can get dropped in a month or two and no one will notice. Are you going to keep an eye on it? Because I sure won't. He's allowed to drop him early, that just means he dropped Ortiz. He can't pick up Ortiz without dropping the placeholder in the same transaction. No policing required.
King Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 That player can get dropped in a month or two and no one will notice. Are you going to keep an eye on it? Because I sure won't. If he gets dropped no one will care. It's a non issue.

The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 If the owner of Nathan Eovaldi wanted to keep him would they have been allowed? I seen he was just added into the Yahoo database today. So wouldn't have been in the database at the time of the cutdown...

spittin Verified Member Posted February 13, 2017 Author Posted February 13, 2017 Can someone pm bb and tell him he needs to post keepers, I'm driving on the highway ATM

P2F Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 Thanks for the warm welcome, guys. This team might be the worst I've ever seen, so it will be a challenge to bring it into relevance for the first time, but it will be fun to do so nonetheless. At least the farm has some nice close-proximity pieces, like Moncada and Dahl.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 If the owner of Nathan Eovaldi wanted to keep him would they have been allowed? I seen he was just added into the Yahoo database today. So wouldn't have been in the database at the time of the cutdown... There's a difference between a player who has stated no intention to stop playing Major League baseball versus one who had a f***ing retirement tour the season when he announced his retirement and has never hinted at anything else. Eovaldi is a completely different situation and should be handled appropriately. But whatever, if FS inexplicably wants to waste a roster spot on Ortiz then sure, who cares.
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 Guys, It's simple. FrenchSoup maintains his claim on Ortiz, and isn't allowed to use his N/A spot next year. If at some point, he decides to rescind his claim on Ortiz, then he can use his N/A spot again.
