The draft usually causes an uptick in pick moves, including for the next year's draft.

 

To reduce the uncertainty over how the 2021 pick order will be determined, here is the approach:

 

- standings for the purpose of pick order will be based on a weighted average of 2019 and 2020 win%

 

- the weighting of 2019 and 2020 win% will be anywhere between 70/30 and 50/50, depending on how this season progresses

 

- the draft order for the bottom 5 win% will be by weighted lottery as per usual

Just to clear up any confusion, the pick numbers are not in sequence this year. Pick 21 was added in as compensation as part of the deal to merge the two Ohtani. So if you haven't made trades, you have 1st round pick 15 and 2nd round pick 36, for example.
