jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2017 Posted April 9, 2017 Why does it matter if you were travelling? Does that affect anything? I'm not one to criticize as I've done this, but if I had gotten this punishment I'd stfu and accept the consequences. Stop playing the bloody victim all the damn time. Whose playing the bloody victim?! I'm saying the penalty is pretty f***ing harsh which it is. I'm willing to sit Bumgarner my next matchup against that team (whoever I was facing) but losing a first?! It's the bloody first week of the season. I admit I made a mistake and it's not like this is a common occurrence with me based on my track record in all the fantasy leagues I'm in.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2017 Posted April 9, 2017 This is the first time a manager has actually played an illegal player in BORED. I don't think it's happened in 4+ years in the DDL. And while the pick is a 1st, it's going to be 20th overall. Where is it in the league constitution? I'm sorry but it's quite ridiculous.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2017 Posted April 9, 2017 Why when I picked him up, he wasn't dropped from my roster by an active commissioner? Who is playing the victim? HMMM IM NOT SURE I made a mistake, but really it's the commissioner's fault because it's their job to monitor rosters 24/7.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2017 Posted April 9, 2017 I also thought it was too much until he tried to blame the commissioners for his mistake. Now I think it's appropriate. I'm not placing blame on anyone but myself. I just said that why wasn't the illegal add picked up sooner by a commissioner? Like he made the start like 3-4 days after the add if I recall. I've seen in other leagues when someone has made an illegal add or transactions it gets reverted back right away. Why wasn't mine? So why should I be penalized a 1st rounder in a matchup during the first week of the season which I'm likely to lose those pitching categories anyways? If it was spotted in time, then would I still lose that first round pick?

I always check the spreadsheet either before or immediately after adding a young player though, so in every instance I've dropped the player immediately.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2017 Posted April 9, 2017 Seriously dude, stop being a f***ing prick. I'm not being a prick, I'm being honest. You're coming off like a huge f***ing baby and it's so obnoxious. That's going to be the last thing I post on this matter. You clearly did blame the commissioners but apparently you're not too good at interpreting your own writing. Lmfao, I'm not blaming the commissioners *writes long post blaming the commissioners* Ok ok, that's the last one I swear. I went from feeling bad for you to thinking the punishment was appropriate. Good job!

I can't recall an illegal add ever being played in the DDL and contributing to scoring, is what I meant.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2017 Posted April 9, 2017 A 1st does seem a bit steep to me, but it should be an effective deterrent going forward.

Also, it isn't the commissioners job to notice these things, if it was caught in time, nothing would've happened.

I'm coming off like a huge f***ing baby? Go f*** yourself you wanker. No considerations given whatsoever after I even said that I've been traveling for over a month. Pretty sad. Especially when this is a first time thing on my end in all the leagues I've participated in. If that's the case I'm resigning from this league. I have never seen anything in the constitution that states such a harsh punishment. I understand if this was a playoff matchup or late season matchup with playoff implications. But a first week matchup that didn't even impact the categories at all? Don't have time for this. If that's the case, I'm resigning from this league.

Thanks for going up to bat for me a couple posts back. Greatly appreciated.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2017 Posted April 9, 2017 Now I'm wondering, should the replacement owner still be charged with the 1st round penalty?
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2017 Posted April 9, 2017 Funny thing that pitcher still hasn't been dropped from my roster after just checking the app. Shall I do the honors?

You're not resigning from the league over a 20th overall draft pick fine. Some people think it's strong and some don't. Other suggested punishments from people who do think it's strong are a 2nd rounder (the difference between 20 and 28 in the draft is almost nothing) and forfeiting the week 0-14 (which seems much stronger than a 20th overall pick fine). Picking up your ball and going home over this would be absurd.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2017 Posted April 9, 2017 Can someone explain how being away on travel is a valid excuse for making illegal adds? I get it as an excuse for inactivity, not responding to trade inquiries, etc., but making an egregious move like adding an owned prospect and not bothering to check that he was owned, then proceeding to benefit from his stats? Sorry, no sympathy from me there.

Would like to see something written in the constitution that establishes the benchmark for illegal adds. I'm done with the whole ordeal, so whatever you guys decide I don't care.

It's difficult to write a benchmark into the constitution because there are a lot of different scenarios. If someone illegally adds Yoan Moncada and he collects stats before someone notices, they'd probably just be removed from the league barring them being mid-stroke or something. I'll talk to spittin about adding something though. It's tough that you were on vacation, but the problem is that any subsequent offender (hopefully there are none) will look to this precedent, and it's difficult to say that the next fine will be harsher than this one because jaysblue was on vacation and you weren't. Anyway, we should all just move on. It was an honest mistake, but a precedent has been established. Nobody wants to see you get piled on for it.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 9, 2017 Posted April 9, 2017 Why is BTS the commissioner anyway? I keep thinking of Dwight Schrute painting the office black and then accidentally discharging his Beaumont-Adams into the ground, popping Andy Bernard's ear drum. It's gunnnnn safety BTS!

spittin Verified Member Posted April 9, 2017 Author Posted April 9, 2017 Holy s***, I figured accepting Jaysblue's application was a foreshadowing to an event like this. My thoughts on the incident are as follows, -The punishment of such an infraction should be tough. There are scenarios where the consequences could severely impact results. Although the chances are slim, it is possible that a team could stream an owned prospect fighting for a playoff spot and make it based off that move if a match-up was down to the wire. This could completely destroy an entire season and would not be reversible. -One thing that bugs the f*** out of me is the fact that it alters the integrity of the statistics, it has a butterfly effect feel to it and it makes me uncomfortable. Normally I would have caught such a mistake, but I was traveling. So in conclusion a first round pick is harsh, but a second or a waiver pick isn't enough. An offender could f*** up a whole season, especially if they were creeping late night Saturday for streamers and no one catches it before the early Sunday games near the end of the year, I could see connorp doing something like that for sure. The penalty will remain a 1st, so be extra diligent when adding someone that you're not quite sure on his owner status (Sezatela had been owned for a year.)
