Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 A carefully selected panel of forum members have helped to compile a list of the Blue Jays top 26 prospects. Members submitted individual lists of their top 15 players, which I placed in a table using a points system and ranked accordingly. We have done this several times in the past and I think it is some of the best Blue Jays stuff out there. The point of this is certainly not that we are the foremost experts on prospects on this forum. It is that every member of the panel put in a lot of independent thought and research into generating their list. Members of the panel include 43211234, Ace, Cyborg, myself, King, KingKat, Krylian, Nafro, NJH, SirBJay, Spanky, and The Hurl. I'd also like to thank FrenchSoup, JimCanuck, and Pendleton for submitting lists. Your lists will be included on the final document, but not in the final tally. In the end, I liked your lists, but I decided to wait another year to be sure. Prospects 11-17 will be released tomorrow and the top 10 will be released on Wednesday for increased discussion. I included the top voter for each player if they wish to post a little of their thought process. Without further adieu: T18- Juan Meza (KingKat) T18- Guadalupe Chavez (Ace) 20- Shane Dawson (SirBJay) 21- Ryan McBroom (43211234) T22- Mitch Nay (Krylian) T22- Chad Girodo (Grant77) 24- Norberto Obeso (KingKat) T25- Travis Bergen (Ace) T25- Roemon Fields (King)

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2015 Author Posted December 14, 2015 I had Chad Girodo near the bottom of my list, not because of his upside, but because of his proximity to the majors. Had we a little more depth, he wouldn't have been considered, but the other players I was looking had either taken a step back in 2015 or were in R ball with a real lack of scouting reports. We're seeing more and more sidearmers succeed in relief and I think that Girodo could put up a few WAR before a few of these guys even reach the big leagues. He's shown good control, strikeout stuff, and has generated plenty of groundballs at the high levels. I could see him making an impact in middle relief in 2016, despite a fastball that only reaches 88-90.
King Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 I had Roemon Fields at 15. I think he could be a viable up and down player in the MLB if you can maximize his skillset so that he receives as few plate appearances as possible (as it appears, he excels the most with his defense, speed and baserunning). Jarrod Dyson absolute ceiling, although he in all likelyhood never reaches that. I would most certainly have him over the 20 year old in the DSL..
Nafro Verified Member Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 I think there is a definite chance both Girodo and Fields contribute this coming season or next. Probably the highest probability out of any of the prospects. The only prospect I had on here in my top 15 was McBroom. For some reason I think he will just continue to hit. I have no real reason for this, other than my often wrong gut telling me.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 You can really see the hit to the system here. These guys are basically all either extremely uninspiring (Girodo, Dawson), plain old bad (Fields, Nay), or super immature (Chavez, Meza). I will admit that I gave Bergen, Chavez, and Obeso essentially no thought when doing my list. It's good that we didn't dig any deeper. ew yuck gross
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 I think there is a definite chance both Girodo and Fields contribute this coming season or next. Probably the highest probability out of any of the prospects. They should be higher. Also think Bergen should be WAY higher.
Nafro Verified Member Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 Some of these guys aren't really prospects. Most of these guys aren't really propsects. That could change with a couple, but for the most part they are org depth.
Nafro Verified Member Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 They should be higher. Also think Bergen should be WAY higher. Perhaps, and I would love to see an all Kennesaw State battery in Lansing this year! Pitching 5.1 innings of pro ball as a 7th round pick, makes it tough to gain any prospect hype.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Think about how many specs were dealt at the deadline... Didn't we lose something like 9 lefties alone? This list would've liked a hell of a lot different had we done this 5 months ago.
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 I will say I gave Fields no thought because I've grown to loathe guys whom are toolsy and can't f***ing hit.

It's possible that every name traded would have made the list somewhere Cordero Tirado Wells Brentz LaBourt Hoffman Castro Tinoco Rasmussen (Boyd and Norris wouldn't be eligible)
Sorrow Verified Member Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 I will say I gave Fields no thought because I've grown to loathe guys whom are toolsy and can't f***ing hit. Fields is a bit unique being over-aged and all but he just finished his second full pro season, had good walk numbers in AA. If he can field he'd be a really solid bench piece for a team that had someone like Kyle Schwarber in the OF. Let Schwarber (example player only) get 3-4 at bats and get pulled for a guy that can run bases and field. Jarrod Dyson lite.
43211234 Verified Member Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 I had McBroom 13 or 14 I think, mostly because everyone after the top ten or so suxxx. I didn't originally have him on the list and regret his inclusion. I guess I included McBroom because there's a small chance he could be a league average-ish bat and maybe have a few seasons with some big league at bats whereas someone like DJ Davis has almost no chance to make the majors at this point. I changed spots 10-15 a bunch of times and never really found something I was completely happy with.

If he doesn't dominate every level offensively up the ladder then his prospect value goes in the shitter, down in flames! His value is slightly similiar L.B. Dantzler (who suxx) after his first season in Vancouver.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 He was so old for Lansing. Kind of a shame that they didn't find a way to promote him to Dunedin or New Hampshire at some point.

I wonder what they will do with Bundy now that he's out of options. I guess he'll just slot into the bullpen and they'll hope he produces some value from there. It's not a terrible list. I like Harvey, Reyes, Mountcastle, Givens.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Kyle Boddy from the pitching facility in Seattle has been very critical of the O's player development in the minors. Said its no coincidence top pitching prospects don't do well in the system.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 What are they teaching that's so wrong? He never said anything specific about them since he works in the industry but sounds like a lot of it is lack of training. That they seem to generalize on pitchers thinking they have to be a "certain" way instead looking at each player on case by case basis. I remember listening to an interview with Arrieta who said he was happy he was with the Cubs because they let him be himself and let him use his athletic delivery.
