The signing of Macro Estrada was great news for the Jays. But they still have two holes to fill in their starting rotation.

Where is Felix Doubront? This guy was a reliable starter for a championship Red Sox team a few years ago and still possesses mlb stuff. In 2015 with the Jays he had a 3.35 FIP. The last mention I can find of him was in this July 2015 post on mlbtraderumors: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/felix-doubront

Otherwise rotoworld suggests he is on a minor league contract right now with the cubs. It can't take much to trade for him and with him being at league minimum that would allow the Jays enough money to go for Greinke. Maybe the Cubs would be willing to do a Revere for Doubront type scenario if the Cubs threw in a couple million to compensate.

1. Greinke

2. Stroman

3. Doubront

4. Dickey

5. Estrada

He pitched against us with the A's, I think when Sonny Gray got scratched during the win streak, and looked really out of shape. I'd take him on a minor league deal, but if he's already signed then there are plenty of similar guys to go after. There's no point in trading for him in my opinion.

You want to trade Ben Revere to the Cubs for Felix Doubront?

A) The cubs released Doubront last year than we picked him up...on a minor league contract.

B) He is on the A's roster now, so you would have to work a trade with them.

C) This would not be a wise move. There are about 30-50 better options than Felix Doubront.

Why would anyone be willing to give up anything useful to trade for him at this point? I wouldn't mind him in the minors for depth but full time #5 starter...? Come on now.

Ideally, Dickey or Hutch is our #5. Meaning, i think we need 2 legit starters to be brought in... Via Free Agency I'm hoping. If you can do that... And have Hutch as your #6 potentially (or long man)... Then re-sign Lowe...I think we're in really good shape.

Right now, we're in a position where we can win in 2016 and have sustained success. Signing 2 pitchers to long term deals throws all of that out the window. The best idea for us is probably to sign a guy like Iwakuma or Lackey to a short term deal and also bring in some competition. That could be Hill, Lincecum, Fister, Blanton, etc. or it could be through trade or shrewd minor league signings.

What does the starting rotation and pen look like if you had your way?

YOU have to be Felix Doubront in order to write this.

Lackey on a 2 or Iwakuma on a 3 year deal is too long for me. I'd rather have younger SP's signed for a little longer and still have the possibility of moving them.

Lackey and Iwakuma are pretty much retiring as Jays if they get what they're looking for.

I agree with Krylian -

The team is still in win now mode for the next 2-4 years and you kind of have to acquire win now pitchers and that's not 38 year olds off the scrap pile or various projects and lightning in a bottle types. Price/Greinke may be too much - fair enough but Chen and Zimmerman might be good targets as number 2 starters.

With

Stroman

Chen

Zimmerman

Estrada

Dickey

And a pen of

Osuna, Sanchez, Cecil, Loup, (FA signings = Tony Sipp, Darren O'Day, Carlos Villanueva for long man duty/spot starter) , Hendriks, Hutchison long man mop up/spot starter, etc

I would rather role with

Stroman

Dickey

Estrada

Osuna

Hutch/Sanchez

Than any of the other proposals in this thread, except for Price/Grienke and bumping the payroll up by $20M. The scrap heap solutions will not work.

If I could take my pick from the FG projections, maybe something like this:

Stroman

Iwakuma (3/42)

Dickey

Estrada

Sanchez/Osuna/Hutchison competition

Osuna/Sanchez

Cecil

Lowe (2/8)

Hendriks

Loup

Hill (1/6)/Blanton (1/4)

Hutchison

That way you get a number 2 starter who is as good as Zimmermann and better than Chen/Leake types in my opinion and a chance to start our young pitchers with experienced swing men as insurance.

How much money do you think they have? lol
