Keep in mind the KBO is a very hitter friendly environment and that Eric Thames is crushing there. According to MLBtraderumors it's not the Indians, Tigers, Orioles, Red Sox, or Padres. To me, the following teams appear unlikely: NL East: Mets: Duda Nationals: Zimmerman Marlins: Bour Braves: Freeman Phillies: Howard NL Central: Cubs: Rizzo Cincinatti: Votto NL West: Dodgers: Gonzalez Giants: Belt Arizona: Goldschmidt AL East: Yankees: Texiera Rays: too poor AL Central: Royals: Morales WSox: Abreu Twins: Mauer AL West: Angels: Pujols Rangers: Fielder This leaves the Jays, Oakland, Seattle, St. Louis, Pittsburgh, and the Astros. Oakland seems like the most likely to me and it smells like a low risk high reward type of move Beane would make. Pittsburgh and St. Louis also make a lot of sense. Could the Jays be a fit? They could keep Edwin at DH permanently and have Park man first - but where does that leave Colabello? Interesting to ponder...
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 Toronto won. Press conference at 9.

I think the price would also be low enough the Rays could look to do it, although perhaps picking up LoMo changes that. Rangers seem to like Fielder as DH, so I could see that being possible, and then trade Moreland. I suspect Oakland will look to sign Lee instead.

Dr Negative Verified Member Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 No idea who won this (because why would I) but this whole posting system is really silly.

The Jays, who have THREE first basemen on the roster are likely to get him, but the Marlins aren't likely to get him because of Justin Bour. Right.
2lowitzki Verified Member Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 He is a first baseman from Korean league, and unknowned team won the posting bid of $12.85M. His stat last year in Korean league. BA: 0.343 HR: 53 RBI: 146 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h2CE70kdhoc (This is a video of his first 30 homeruns in 2015) However, Korean league has been hitter friendly few years ago.. For example, Jung Ho Kang (who is now with the Pirates) hit 40 home run in 2014 before going to the major league. There are no news about whether the Blue Jays bid on him.. but heard the teams including the Red Sox, Orioles, and the Cardinals are not the winner.. I know they bid for Yu Darvish few years ago, but they were outbid by the Rangers.. I think the Blue Jays may need to look at some international players since they are not the favorable destination for free agents.. With Encarnacion becoming a free agent next year.. and Justin Smoak being unreliable... I know we have too many right handed batter.. but he may end up becoming a better option than signing Chris Davis.

2lowitzki Verified Member Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 I'm Korean and if Byung Ho Park comes to the Blue Jays, I think a lot more Korean fans will come and watch the Jays game.. I have a jersey which is unmarked, but I will put his name once he come..
2lowitzki Verified Member Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 The Jays, who have THREE first basemen on the roster are likely to get him, but the Marlins aren't likely to get him because of Justin Bour. Right. Right now, I heard the Cardinals and the Orioles are not the winner... and it is down to Washington, Colorado, Seattle are the three teams likely to win the bid.. Nobody is predicting the Blue Jays because we have too many first baseman... I think we need to release Smoak anyway..

I have a jersey which is unmarked, but I will put his name once he come.. If he can produce above league average for a 1st baseman, I would sign him for that very reason. Toronto has a huge Asian population and, like in Seattle with Ichiro, this could help sell tickets for several years.

Russ Martin didn't draw any extra fans when we were a .500 team.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 Not all Asians would care about a Korean baseball player.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 In fact, NORTH Koreans probably couldn't care less!
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 I bet Buerhle would have freaked if they had a Korean baseball player.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 Seriously though, I watched Park hit two home runs on youtube and I see a Josh Donaldson level swing. He should step right into the league and hit at least as well as 2014 Donaldson. 130 wRC+ or better for the Park Byung-Ho. I'd give him $50 million comfortably
43211234 Verified Member Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 So what are the odds that it was the Blue Jays who posted the highest bid? 0.5-1% maybe?
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 So what are the odds that it was the Blue Jays who posted the highest bid? 0.5-1% maybe? I'm hearing from my sources that it was actually the Blue Jays. I don't trust them though. 20%
2lowitzki Verified Member Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 I sent twitter to Shi Davidi and Barry Davis about this, and they didn't even tweet about that. This may mean 1. The Blue Jays did not make a bid.. 2. The Blue Jays won the bid, but the team set 'press embargo', so they are not allowed to spread the news until certain date.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 Isn't Eric Thames the Barry Bonds of Korea? Why the f*** are we not bringing him back?

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 So what are the odds that it was the Blue Jays who posted the highest bid? 0.5-1% maybe? Down to 24 teams, so I'll go with 4%.
nextyear Verified Member Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 If management thinks this way and brings in a Byung-Ho Park to provide more offense, or a Chris Davis then I think the Blue Jays will be losers for many more years. Didn't 2015 show that the Blue Jays need defense as much as offense?
