Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 And how much money will it be? My guess is $25M over 5 years.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2015 Author Posted November 3, 2015 For his sake i don't think i would want him to work for Loria This is 1000% about the money. Even if working for Loria is a shitshow, AA would be set for life after a year or two and can probably command a guaranteed contract.

Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Not to mention how ass backwards that dumpster fire of a organization is. Basically hiring a Manager before a GM. You would think that you would want a GM on board and help picking his manager then just throwing him in with a guy.... All the best to AA if this is the case because he will need it.

Did they, though? They fired their GM right before AA announced he wasn't returning to the Jays. They don't want to be accused of tampering, but I'd bet this deal was struck a couple weeks ago. Now they'll just allow for a mourning period before they announce.

They almost hired Mark DeRosa before Mattingly agreed to listen and sign, smells of AA.

If he signs with the Marlins, then we know it was about the money; not principle.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2015 Author Posted November 3, 2015 They almost hired Mark DeRosa before Mattingly agreed to listen and sign, smells of AA. I also seriously doubt Mattingly would go there unless he knew Loria was bringing in a legit GM to turn around the franchise. It's been a couple years since the last Marlins firesale, so it's right about time for Loria to open up the wallet again. I'm guessing they throw down major contract offers to marquee FAs like they did in 2011.

Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 If this is true then that says all I need to know about him. Enjoy beautiful Miami though. Maybe all those gorgeous Latinas will convince him to drop weight and trade us Jose Fernandez
Praxis Verified Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 So honest question here; Michael Hill is the President of Baseball Operations at the Marlins and his duties then do not include being GM of the franchise? I'm only curious because the press have been insisting that there are no GM vacancies in baseball at the moment.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Really doubt he would work for Loria. Apparently the Dodgers offered him a pretty significant position. My bet is he takes that and waits until a job he wants opens up. Would probably be very good for him to work in that organization briefly as well.

Miami's GM Dan Jennings was fired the day AA had his presser, Alex was notified by Bob McCown...*nudge, nudge* *wink, wink*
Praxis Verified Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Miami's GM was fired the day AA had his presser, Alex was notified by Bob McCown...*nudge, nudge* *wink, wink* Ah, thanks. Makes sense now.

After they fired their manager, he became manager as well. On Oct 6, he was replaced as field manager. On Oct 29, he was fired as General Manager. On Oct 29, Anthopoulos officially turned down an extension from the Blue Jays, citing "the wrong fit." Regardless of title, there is an opening in the Marlins front office, and a connection between Anthopoulos and Loria (Expos).
JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 AA pretended that he didn't know Miami fired their GM. If he goes to Miami he was being deceitful and not bargaining in good faith with the Jays. It will tarnish his reputation imo. I don't care about him anymore, he's now an opponent to my Jays.

Why would he take a demotion to go to the Dodgers and become 3rd in command? With Friedman off the market, AA is poised to become one of the highest-paid GMs in baseball, and the best one available to a team with a vacancy.

In Toronto, maybe, but these things are quickly forgotten. Executives get poached all the time, in baseball and business in general.

Appreciate the info; I haven't been able to find the situation as clearly explained anywhere else other than this board!

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 3, 2015 Author Posted November 3, 2015 Appreciate the info; I haven't been able to find the situation as clearly explained anywhere else other than this board! It caps a weird, weird year for Jennings. He started the season as GM, as expected. He'd had that role since the end of the 2013 season. When the Marlins decided to fire manager Mike Redmond on May 17, they shocked everyone in baseball by making Jennings their field manager. He backed away from his GM duties then. When he was fired as Miami's manager after going 55-69 to finish the season, the Marlins offered Jennings his old GM job back. He was said to be mulling it over. Something changed between then and now, because he's 100 percent out the door. The Marlins announced Michael Hill, their former GM and current president of baseball operations will also "assume the full responsibilities of the general manager position." http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/marlins-fire-dan-jennings-for-second-time-this-month-%E2%80%94-this-time-from-gm-job-001826857.html ---- So perhaps Hill will be GM and Anthopoulos will be brought in as President.
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 AA operating under a $50M budget will be an absolute s*** show.

Wow, what a s*** show in Miami. Unbelievable. Good luck to AA working with the lowest payroll in baseball, especially with that organization!

I thought Hill was interim for the time being, meh, either way, where there's smoke there's fire. It all adds up. Not to mention AA wouldn't be tarnishing his reputation, it's his choice, especially if it's inline with a promotion. Good for him.
