He's already better than at least half the '16 pen.

Not really. He's one of the last guys i'd want brought in against a predominantly left handed hitting lineup.

So it seems the general consensus is that Sanchez should start the year in AA or AAA, but what do we think will actually happen? Does floyd have that 5th spot locked up?

I suppose its too early to tell as well.

These are all use them or lose them guys.

It's not inconceivable that no one with options makes the 25 man roster.Stroman and Osuna probably will but neither should be gifted a spot.

I'd go with Chavez for the 5th spot and put Floyd in the pen. He could *potentially* become part of a filthy back end end which is better then him blowing his arm out in May. Let Sanchez and Hutch start in AAA a when Chavez starts to regress, you reevaluate then

Chavez is bloody awful. He shouldn't be starting he shouldn't even be on an MLB roster and we gave away a great reliever for him. He was beaten badly out of Oakland whip over 1.4. Way more hits than innings pitched.

Chavez will be eaten alive by Redsox Orioles and Yankees

There's absolutely no "probably" when it comes to Stroman, he's the Opening Day starter.

In Buffalo?

He's not likely to pitch his way out of a spot in the rotation but stranger things have happened.

There is literally nothing a healthy Stroman can do to pitch his way out of a spot in ST, nor should there be.

I don't think the jays owe Stroman anything. If he's not the best option for the rotation when the season starts he should be sent down.

In your mind, what could he do in the next three weeks that would lead to an acceptable determination that the team is best off with him in AAA?

It would take a combination of him performing poorly and 5 others exceeding expectations.

And you think 20 spring training innings is sufficient for making this call?

There is exactly a 0% chance that we have 5 starters WHO ARE ALL BETTER THAN MARCUS STROMAN Edited by G-Snarls

I think there's two spots in the rotation that should be up for grabs. Stroman,Hutch,Hernandez,Penny,Chavez,Diamond,Sanchez and Floyd should all have equal opportunities to win them. If anything Stroman,Hutch and Sanchez should have to outperform the rest because they have options.

No

Just no

Best 5 make the rotation. Zero f***s given about options. This team could not be more in "win now" mode.

Let's say Hernandez and Floyd marginally outpitch Stroman this spring(not out of the realm of possibility).Do they demote them to the pen,or cut them loose all together, and keep Stroman? If so,why are they even here?

You don't f***ing demote demote Marcus Stroman because he was out-pitched by Roberto Hernandez in spring training. Holy f***.

If he's being outpitched by Hernandez he's probably not pitching that well anyway. I'm not sure what you think Stromans done that should afford him being gifted a rotation spot.

I don't expect it'll ever be an issue because Stroman isn't likely to regress at all let alone enough to lose his spot in the rotation. On the off chance that he does I wouldn't give two shits if he started the year in Buffalo.

I'm not sure you're aware how high the probability is that Hernandez has better results than Stroman over a 20-inning sample. It's much higher than 0. And those 20 innings don't move the needle at all on the probability that Hernandez will be better than Stroman over the next 20 inning sample, which is why you wouldn't keep Hernandez over Stroman regardless of what happens over the next three weeks.

If Stroman starts the season in Buffalo this team is in some serious s***.

Lmao, Stroman is like a top 50-75 asset in the MLB, what the f*** am I reading here? Stroman could decide to pitch left-handed for the remainder of ST and he would still be guaranteed the #1 or 2 spot in the rotation.

Yet you're perfectly willing to gift Stroman a spot based on what? The 27 innings he pitched at the end of last season?
