Question for you all. Assuming Votto can be moved, would you rather have EE (DH) and Votto (1B), or EE (DH) and JB (1B) going forward?

The real question is, will the payroll be increased to support these salaries. Spending more than half of payroll on 4 players in their decline years is not a particularly good approach.

So, you're saying we should not re-sign both? Or are you saying that we shouldn't be re-signing/extending any player over 28? Are you saying status quo, keep our existing contracts on "declining" players and fill EE and JB's spots with a bunch of Cola's or AAA players coming up?

I would sign one of EE or JB, preferably EE. Whoever is signed, the role is a 1B/DH. Bautista may not accept this, in which case good bye.

Roll with an OF of Pompey, Pillar, Saunders, B grade FA ($10-$12M AAV) in 2017. When Alford ready mid 2017 or beginning 2018, the OF is Pompey, Pillar, Alford.

Sign Josh Reddick for half the cost

B grade FA for 10-12m a year? More like an F grade FA.

Reddick is still probably going to get something like 5/85 so its not like he's cheap. Like Shapiro mentioned in his interview, if they have a really good year payroll will be much higher and they can afford some of these players.

That is why I hate people saying it will be better off if the jays are out of it by the deadline so they can get futures by trading JB, EE etc.. If that happens payroll drops a ton and everyone loses.

Who's saying this? They should be shot and pissed on. Flags Fly Forever!

Wonder if he'll accept going to Buffalo. Hopefully he can get some of his velo back since he was pretty bad last year. Minor league deal is never a bad signing.

He only threw 5.2 innings last year.

I would much rather have Reddick at 5/85 than Bautista at 5/100 (and he'll probably get more).

I think both end up getting more if they perform as expected. I would take Bautista at similar money, but that's me.

I'd take Bautista over Reddick at those prices.

Yeah i'm just afraid Bautista will have a massive drop-off some year soon. I wouldn't be surprised if he regressed to a 2 WAR player at age 38

Have to disagree. Unless Bautista is guaranteed to put up 2015-calibre numbers at age 40 I'd prefer the 33-year-old Reddick by that point.

Reddick has less power, walks less and isn't a great defender.

#BlueJays RHP Justin Maese says success of Osuna in ‘15 gives him that “extra motivation to get up in the morning”. 2016 could be leap year.

Reddick is a really good defender and is great contact bat with power. One of the issues with him has been durability.

He was a great defender, but it looks like he may have already lost a step.
