Riley Adams 2 for 2 with another 2B so far. Hitting .400+ in Vancouver so far. Not sure how many have clued in, but this kid has massive upside if he can make contact. This whole draft class is off to a fast start.

They're College guys. Let's wait until they're in full season ball playing at an age appropriate level and see how they're doing. I don't get excited about college guys in short season ball.

It's almost like most players are good guys, but can't sign every single napkin that gets shoved in front of their face because they have to go play the game people are paying to watch them play.

Usually when their prospects is when they are best at signing and then once they make it they don't do it much whether it be getting tired of it or getting cocky.

Oh f*** off L54 - riding my ass daily on here. He signed ZERO autographs before the game (that he didn't start) and there were only like 5 kids standing at the fence. In fact, every Philly player on the field walked past these 5 kids. Tommy Joseph was the only one to come over and gave the kids some baseballs.

 

Maybe Crawford likes Daddy's instead. Who knew.

They're College guys. Let's wait until they're in full season ball playing at an age appropriate level and see how they're doing. I don't get excited about college guys in short season ball.

 

Virtually every top drafted college bat from this draft is in short-season ball. I get what you are saying, but apart from Noda and Kevin Smith, these guys ARE in an "age appropriate" league. Riley Adams is still 20 and is in a league wherein the average age is right around ~21. Even Kevin Smith is still 20.

 

Edit: Nevermind they both just turned 21 in the past ~two weeks.

Isn't the average age artificially increased by s*****, non-prospects? Any real prospect who's 20 or 21 shouldn't be in short-season ball very long at all. I'm with Krylian on this one.

The Northwest League wherein Vancouver plays is a league wherein virtually every newly drafted College player begins their career. The average age is not "artificially inflated" as very few newly drafted College players are skipped straight to full-season ball, and in fact, the "gap" between Vancouver (A-) and Lansing (A) really isn't that significant for that reason.

 

This only becomes an issue if you are looking at a College aged kid who is REPEATING short-season ball.

It reads like they almost relunctantly put Bo in there. They also "matter-of-factly" stated that Bo's swing will ensure he can't translate his current results to higher levels and may not hit .280..

 

I guess these scouts will ride their swing critique into the ground.

I honestly have no idea what you're talking about; nor do I have any idea of who the "cool" group is. I do randomly throw sarcastic comments out though - which apparently you've decided are commonly directed towards a certain type and have decided to consistently attack me for it. That's cool.

I found it interesting that they rank Tatis Jr. above Bo despite the fact that Bo is severely outperforming him in A ball. Tatis is like 8 months younger, but still.

Blue Jays prospect Jon Harris threw seven shutout innings on Wednesday for Double-A New Hampshire.

 

Harris gave up three hits, didn't walk anyone and struck out four. It's nice to see him pitch well, as he's struggled for most of the 2017 season (5.53 ERA). Despite having two above-average pitches and two average offerings, he's really struggled to miss bats this year, and the command has lagged at times, as well. The talent is here, but he's going to have to show more starts like this one before you can believe he's even close to being ready to join the Toronto rotation.

 

That's actually one of the first times I read someone suggest that Jon Harris has talent and/or any above average pitches (let alone 2 with 2 more average ones).

What do they base the above average pitches on? If he isn't missing bats and his command has been bad are they saying the pitchers are good because of movement? I don't think velo and movement matter much if you aren't getting good results from the pitch.

Harris was considered a steal at 29 if I'm remembering correctly. No mock draft had him going higher than 15. Control's still there (3.1 BB/9 this season), but stuff isn't good enough to miss bats at the upper levels. Giving up 11.2 H/9 in AA.

I found it interesting that they rank Tatis Jr. above Bo despite the fact that Bo is severely outperforming him in A ball. Tatis is like 8 months younger, but still.

 

I'm not saying I agree with that ranking, but Tatis is more likely to stick on the infield (according to most people) and has a terrific/projectable baseball body, and burgeoning power. I would certainly prefer Bo from a fantasy perspective, but the idea is probably that Tatis will have more raw power at his peak while sticking at SS or at least 3B. The other thing working against Bo is that once some scouts say "the swing won't work against advanced pitching," it's a hard label to shake, so even though he's raking now, the prospect sites are hedging. He will need to keep hitting up through AA in order to totally shed that label.
