We want the rangers to lose and astros to win so they have to play a 1 game playoff and burn their aces

 

Hamels is pitching right now, so ace-burning wouldn't really factor in. Keuchel pitched yesterday

 

A Game 163 with Holland still gives him at least three days rest too. Same with Kazmir.

The Jays are very unlikely to see the Angels at all at this point. A Rangers win means we wouldn't have to see Houston.

 

I would love to see Houston.

This game isn't meaningless, but the decision makers treated it like it was.

I disagree on both counts:

 

- A Jays win would not have made a difference if KC also won and it looks like KC will win so this game was definitely meaningless.

- The decision makers did not treat it like it was a meaningless game. By allowing Buehrle to pitch 2 innings to reach a milestone would have made it meaningful. Buehrle did not have his stuff, the defense also contributed to the situation, and the Rays had a lot of luck (grounders/bloops to get on base for the HR).

On the first point, nobody making the calls would know that going in. It's moot now but Price and Stroman are both well rested and not pitching. This is not giving your squad an optimal chance to win.

 

On your second point - they treated it as meaningful for a personal milestone. Not for the standings. The best chance for a team win would have come from any other starter more than a fatigued vet on a single night's rest.

the Rays color guy said the same thing about a Papa B pitch. Pitch Trax said inside but the guy basically said it was a lot closer and should have been a strike

Oh well it still gives us the closest scenario to us winning the league title. At least the team we would face would have less rest than us.

I'm not sure about everyone else, but I want the Orioles, Angels and Astros to win.

Yanks on pace to get swept by the Orioles, lol. Would be hilarious if they somehow ended up dropping down to play Houston away in the WC game.

I think that's how they'd end up playing the wild card game in Houston.

IIRC Houston has the tiebreaker, which means the WC game would be in Houston where Houston plays MUCH better.

Doesn't seem like JD will get to .300, ugh. Really cooled off for the most part of September.

 

He was going at an insane pace in August. Hopefully just tired and no injury, maybe a few days of rest and the playoffs will energize him.
