Dr Negative Verified Member Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 Does Goins have an insane work ethic or something. He's gone from being completely useless to posting a .400 OBP in the second half and hitting walk off home runs.

I'm not saying Goins of the last month is going to stick but the reason why Gruber and me were willing to gamble on him is because when you look at the guy there is nothing to suggest he can't hit. They just never spent enough time on his mechanics. It looks like he has gone from scrap to superman in a month even though the change he made is relatively small. Can he stick? Only time will tell and i still love Travis.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 But the real question is will BTS admit he was wrong?
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 Goins has been on pace for basically 2 WAR this year. Might legit be better than Travis. whoa lets not get ahead of ourselves here. I'm still taking Travis 10/10 times. Goins is the perfect backup IF for the team as Tulo and now Travis both have injury concerns.

Trouba95 Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 Goins can give Tulo a few games off in like Atlanta. Or even JD. No way we can lose vs Atlanta. They're worse than Philly imo.
FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 I don't know about 10/10. Goins might be better and cheaper. Travis is ahead of Goins, but the gap has closed substantially. Travis has become injury prone and Goins is starting to hit. Good problem to have.

Goins is the much better defender but I'll take Travis's bat. Goins has had a really good month but it's still only been a month. Lets not get ahead of ourselves.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 Speaking of Travis is he officially done for the season? The writing has been on the wall for a while now..

That was the most pleasant thing about Travis...his defense was way better than advertised. Goins' is still a better defender...but it's not like Travis is chopped liver in that department either...they both play quality defense.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 Why not both? Tulo and Travis are made of glass. Goins will get his playing time.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 Why not both? Tulo and Travis are made of glass. Goins will get his playing time. I'm totally on board with that...at the beginning of the season most said we had zero depth...mostly because they assumed goins and pillar were terrible and didn't think Travis would be as good as he turned out to be. I must admit, I didn't think much of goins myself and was a bit skeptical when it came to pillar...now we look at having those three, and add pompey and now revere to the fold and things look a lot brighter for the future.
baubau Verified Member Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 how is goins cheaper? Travis has hair and gets fancy smanchy hair cuts. Goins can cut his own hair. Saving costs on da barber for the team. Duh! / yes terrible sarcasm /
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 Good thread GD. Love what he has/is doing but making any judgements based on a very hot month and walk off dinger night isn't sound. He has done a great job and Im happy to be wrong about Goins. His BB% improvement is huge. Hope he can keep it up.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 I am so happy that he's playing so well. With the defence he plays all he needed is his bat to be decent and he would be the perfect backup infielder and voila, he's even sporting a nice 1.2 fWAR. Even with how much I like the kid I doubted him many times, I think we all owe Gruber an apology - he was right he can stick

Goins is elite defensively so I'd say Goins is the much better defender but Travis has the much better bat. I'm still taking Travis though. He's 3 years younger and has more potential. Goins defense is probably in the decline stage already while I think Travis has some more power potential.

mellowgold Verified Member Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 Great problem to have. I would even consider trading Tulo, restocking the farm, and putting his $20 million into the rotation. Goins at SS and Travis at 2B. But we're getting ahead of ourselves. Let's see if he can keep it up for another month.
RIPEXPOS Verified Member Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 I was another Goins supporter. With a lineup like ours we can live with the bat thanks to that glove. Plus his K/BB rate has improved dramatically.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 Goins can give Tulo a few games off in like Atlanta. Or even JD. No way we can lose vs Atlanta. They're worse than Philly imo. Atlanta has won 54 games this year, so ya... We can lose to Atlanta just as other good teams have. Looking past those types of teams is exactly how they sneak up and bite teams in the ass
