burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Just getting rid of Reyes's contract was a huge plus. To get Tulo back while having to only give up Hoffman and a couple of relievers was a massive bargain. The trade has realistic potential of turning into one of the most one-sided trades in recent memory.

Sure it has potential to be a really good trade, but it's not hard to see ways it can also become a disaster.

Problem is, this is the Rockies we're talking about... I mean, how many legitimately decent, just decent upper-mid rotation guys have they developed? I can probably count them on one hand: Ubaldo Jimenez and Jhoulys Chacin. That's it. 2 decent pitchers in 2 decades. They were both pretty much one year wonders too and never reached anywhere near that 1 year level since. Hell, even going outside for help hasn't helped them. Darryl Kile (RIP) was an unmitigated disaster in Colorado, and Mike Hampton ended up becoming one of the worst contracts in the history of pro sports. Like, I legitimately do wanna see Hoffman and Castro do well in Colorado. I really do. But I am legitimately worried for their development because Colorado is absolutely inept at it.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 Interesting comments here http://news.nationalpost.com/sports/mlb/relievers-aaron-loup-steve-delabar-approach-time-in-triple-a-differently-but-both-hope-to-be-part-of-a-toronto-blue-jays-playoff-run Delabar: “There’s nothing I’ve been told to do,” he said. “There’s been no communication at all. They never directly said, ‘Hey, here’s what you need to do.’ They just said, ‘Hey, we’ve got to make a move for Sanchez.’ ” He is less sanguine about his demotion than Loup. Last year he was shocked at what he felt was an injustice when he was sent down. Now he tries to focus on his daily routine and ignore the Jays’ exploits. semi-related question: If Delabar doesn't make the playoff roster (he obviously won't), is he still allowed to hang with the team in the dugout during the playoffs? Why didn't you quote everything, instead of just cherry-picking that comment? Loup's comments were refreshing, also Delabar realizes what he needs to do, he's pretty much pissed about options, that's his problem though, he's pitched well in Buffalo but...there's just no room. I suggest people actually read the article.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 Not this year really, and schultz throws hanging sliders for HR's. A bit worrying the Org does not communicate with it's players if true, didn't Norris say something similar? Future Toronto Blue Jays pitching coach, ladies and gents.^^^

The contract is pretty similar to when we got Reyes ironically. Thing about Tulo is he has always been an amazing hitter unlike Reyes whos value mostly came from his legs. Tulo is also a great defensive SS something Reyes never was.

Tulo isn't exactly the poster boy of staying healthy, and it's hard to make the argument that moving to turf will help. I'm pretty this is what SirBJay was referring to.

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 Tulo has put up 0.7 WAR in only 22 games, he's been great. And that's when his bat hasn't been it's usual self, it's gonna be a ton of fun when he gets locked in offensively. Amazing pickup. Just getting rid of Reyes's contract was a huge plus. To get Tulo back while having to only give up Hoffman and a couple of relievers was a massive bargain. Agree with both of these comments. If he stays reasonably healthy, Tulo's deal is an asset that is moveable for value if need be. Reye's play and deal was a liability. Not like Reyes is not an injury risk. His D has been excellent. Id never seen him live until this weekend and was even more impressed. When he gets hot at the plate, and he will, he will hurt some baseballs.
