closetjaysfan Verified Member Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 and if it wasn't for the homer Carter would be remembered as another "good" hitter. Even at that "good" could be debatable. At the time, Carter was considered one of the best hitters in baseball. But that was because Sabermetrics didnt exist. People valued HR and RBI and Carter had lots of those. 9 straight seasons with 98+ RBI. 396 career HR with 6 seasons over 30... these were the reasons people thought he was a good hitter while he was a player.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 ^ maybe baseball was different too back then. Athletes were just in worser shape

Maybe people who actually watch Carter play and was as frustrated as I was knew they had to be a better to evaluate a hitter so they invented Sabermetrics!

I am willing to bet that people will be having a similar conversation about EE in 25 years time. They are very similar players imo.

They are very similar players imo. No way...correct me if I am wrong but EE has much better .OBP and is a lot more patient then carter ever was. EE has a lot more power. EE > Carter by a lot.

dineke Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 EE is a beast, not comparable to carter at all.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 In 25 years science will determine Ryan Goins was the most valuable player Our kids will laugh at us for thinking it was JD or Bautista
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Carter had the biggest moment in Blue Jays history but the current top 4 hitters are pretty provably better than he was.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Carter had the biggest moment in Blue Jays history but the current top 4 hitters are pretty provably better than he was. Carter was not a top 4 hitter in his lineup
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 (edited) I'll never forget that Torii comment, lol. Glad you're having fun man! PS. I told that asshat off saying derogatory crap about your girl. Thanks Spanky. You are a good man. I haven't seen those comments and don't know if I want to. Send me the link? Thanks for having my back. Serves me right for posting a real pic on a message board but oh well. Some of you guys feel like fam. There is nowhere else I can go to find other obsessed Jays fans to talk ball with 24/7. The Jays fans are everywhere here partying hard after the W yesterday. A Bar manager said to me that, other than maybe the BoSox fans, he hasn't seen more away fans at As games and none as pumped. Felt like we won a playoff game or something last night lol Edited August 23, 2015 by BigCecil
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Carter was not a top 4 hitter in his lineup I didn't say he was? Tulo, Edwin, Donaldson, and Bautista are all better than Carter was. The idea that Carter and Edwin are similar is ludicrous, which is what closetjaysfan was saying.

Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Why do you always post South Park .gifs that are seemingly unrelated to anything? Started doing it after they were winning during the 11 game win streak...figured I would keep doing it, plus they are funny
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 autism probably No....and that's not cool
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 No....and that's not cool Agree. Im ok with the ol' generic "full retard" but autism is a little too specific. Know too many people with kids suffering from it. Just my opinion.

I learned something new (no sarcasm intended, I didn't know that one could link to a particular spot in YouTube). That video is so amazing. I feel sorry for the truck driver, I am sure that it ruined his whole day . If only the city had made the warning sign about 10 times larger (the small one that states the low bridge clearance at 10' 6"). Tying it back into the thread topic, we should feel just as bad for the teams facing the Blue Jays, not.

o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Still don't understand why they used Street. Pretty disaster outcome throwing near 30 pitches. great for us today. he wont be available to close today. that's a bonus. most of their pen is gassed, so if the jays can just get at them early the Angels are in trouble.

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 I'm one of those parents. Exactly. I hope they are doing ok. Can't be easy. Heart goes out to you.
