Agreed. I never understood why the Jays got rid of Valencia. He was a very useful player especially if Donaldson got hurt.

I think the Jays just wanted to follow the Royals blueprint of ditching Valencia with two months left in the season. A World Series appearance is surely in the cards now.

If Donaldson gets hurt we're f***ed anyway. Valencia, or whoever they put in there, isn't going to make a hell of a difference. If your core guys get hurt, your team is going to feel it. Valencia would take away ZERO sting from that.

 

There's a big gap between Donaldson and Valencia for sure but I'd say the gap between Valencia and whoever would get the job now is pretty sizeable as well. I'd really feel much better about the chances of the Jays weathering a Donaldson injury with Valencia in the fold.

whoever gets called up will likely be a bench piece for the National league games. Double switch etc for pitcher pinch hitting etc

 

so likely won't matter who comes up unless its Thole to catch dickey and give Martin the longer stretch off

Seems like a potentially smart play would be to call-up Thole, have him catch Dickey tomorrow and then demote him for Pompey. Give Martin some needed time off and then give some to Pillar. When September comes around Thole can come back and be R.A.'s caddy again.
