BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 I realize its heresy in these here parts to praise the guy given the ace price we paid to get him vis a vis how he has performed. We will forever think of RA negatively when Noah blows away another hitter. When you look at his numbers aside from chewing up IP they aren't impressive. BUT his last 10-12 starts have been solid (one when he was dealing with loss of his Father) and when we needed a big start on enemy turf last night he gave it. Like most, watching him pitch usually pisses me off, but he has pitched well enough to think you almost have to pick up that 2016 option just to get the innings out of him. Keep it rollin' RA. Thanks.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 I've always been one of the first to turn on RA (more because of the trade) but he has been huge these past weeks
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 I was never mad at Dickey. He seems like a classy guy, and it's not like he's overpaid. If you have to be mad, be mad at AA.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 well he was God awful earlier in the year and is better now. Looks like if he continues he will have another 1.5-2 fwar season.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 I just wish he'd cut his god damn hair.
JuniorFelix Verified Member Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 ^ and close his mouth. (edit: while pitching, not in a verbal diarrhea type of way)
JuniorFelix Verified Member Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 Other than that though, he's been hard not to like over the last dozen starts. Nice to see him earning his pay this year, and what a time to start doing so!
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 Suppose he shits the bed the rest of the way out. Do you pick up his option? These past half dozen starts or so shows that he is still effective when he is on.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 Nope still not picking it up! He has been good for 12 games and hopefully he keeps it going! But just say Thanks and send him on his way. Better move is try to resign MB and Price with his money you saved, plus his monkey can go to! 12.75 mil better used on them or the Ace we choose from FA !
Travis_Snider Verified Member Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 Id say its pretty much a lock they pick up his option
LTR Verified Member Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 I was going to make this thread myself, so props. Minimizing walks and HRs are the keys to his success as a KB pitcher, and those two things have a lot to do with his velocity IMO.
Maahfaace Verified Member Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 Id say its pretty much a lock they pick up his option I would argue how he pitches down the stretch will greatly impact whether or not his option is picked up, if he continues to pitch like this I wouldn't be surprised or dissapointed if they did just that
Hipfan Verified Member Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 While I never liked the trade, I've never held it against RA. He's been solid, if unspectacular (unfortunately we gave up spectacular to get him...) and his contract is more than affordable. I see no reason not to pick up his option, I can't imagine that it would affect re-signing Price. The only way Price comes back is if ownership decides to break the bank to get him, and RA's option won't be a factor in that.

You have been one of his harshest critics OTB and I remember discussing his V with you a couple months ago. Its returned and is making a big diff.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 Dickey moves into top 50 RA9-WAR among all starters in 2015 (#41). Price comes in at #5, Buehrle at #22 and Estrada slots in at #60.
baubau Verified Member Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 Dickey has been frustrating at times. His yearly year struggles made me not want him back, however if he can pitch the rest of the season strong I think he'll be qualified. I never blamed Dickey for loosing Syndgaard. That is on AA, not him. He has provided more than enough value over his contract.
IronLadle Verified Member Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 At this point I'd pick up his option, at least you know Dickey will give you 200 IP

GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 Can I get the Cole's notes on what RA9-WAR is? Dickey is better than Noah, Zimmerman and Hamels? WAR based on RA (which is ERA except it uses all runs allowed, not just earned runs)
LTR Verified Member Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 RA doing it for his late father... Harry Dickey.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2015 Author Posted August 13, 2015 Bumping to give some props to RA for another decent outing. Keepin' it rolling.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 RA doing it for his late father... Harry Dickey. Is his name really Harry? Thats unfortunate if true
baubau Verified Member Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 Is his name really Harry? Thats unfortunate if true If so his grandparents had a twisted sense of humor. His father's childhood might have been terrible.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2015 Author Posted August 29, 2015 Last 2 starts: Got beat around early in LA but hung in to give us 6 IP Tonight he gives us a quality start - gave up the 6 2/3 IP HR to Gose or it could have been better. The guy has been getting it done. Isn't always pretty.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2015 Author Posted September 3, 2015 He doesn't get much love from the faithful but props to RA for a clutch start with NYY winning this aft. Guy making it tough not to exercise his option.

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2015 Author Posted September 3, 2015 Another great outing. If he pitches like this down the strech and we could utilize the Dickey effect in the playoffs that would be so huge. Overall he has been very good over last 15 starts. Have we now established "the Dickey effect" is a thing?
