Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 I'm not arguing that he is not healthy enough to pitch you dinks I'm arguing that you can't just throw him in as a starter with only a few weeks until he's ready to be eligible for the post season roster. Y'all think that just cause he has been 'throwing' since ST means he can all of a sudden go 80 pitches in his first rehab assignment. He has a lot more than a few weeks brah?
flafson Verified Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Any word on when and where he's pitching? He seem to be in Florida right now but i don't know if he's going to face minor leaguers or not yet.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 He won't but 3 weeks worth of rehab starts will get him to 75-80 pitches which is enough. Then they reevaluate Why is this hard???
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 I haven't checked the DL timeline, but players must be on the 25-man by Aug. 31 midnight to be eligible for the post season roster. Players on the DL are excluded. I don't know when Stroman is allowed to get off the DL - before that date or after. It it's before, they need to bring him up. No you're wrong, again.

Wasn't supposed to happen until the 21'st at the earliest, this is great news.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Looks like Spanky started early today.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 To be playoff eligible you must be one of the following on August 31st: - on the 25 man major league roster, or - on the disabled list (7, 15, or 60 day DL), or - on the suspended list, or - on bereavement leave, or - on military active duty In addition, a club can replace any player who is injured at the time that playoff rosters are submitted. So, for every injured player, the club can add a player who was not on the major league roster, or any of the above eligibility lists at the end of August. In order to be eligible to be added in place of an injured player, one need not be on the 25 man roster, nor even the 40 man roster as of August 31. Any player in the organization as of August 31 can be used to replace an injured player, with permission from the commissioner’s office. enlighten me brah Tadah!

Governator Community Moderator Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Someone is spamming the board, you know you can multi-quote right? Holy. He's not spamming... He's accumulating extra WAR by batting lead off and increasing his plate appearances.

HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Charlie Caskey @CharlieCaskey 1m1 minute ago holy crap, Alex Anthopoulos on @tsn1040 right now saying IF Marcus Stroman comes back in September, it WILL be as a starter #BlueJays Encouraging but funny how AA/Gibby don't work in sync. Second time it's happened this season.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Encouraging but funny how AA/Gibby don't work in sync. Second time it's happened this season. Everything Gibby thinks is a detriment to this team. He's the reason we kept Colabello over Valencia, the reason Dioner Navarro plays too much and hits too high in the lineup, the reason Justin Smoak sits against righties. Him saying Stro should be a reliever made no sense, if the guy can pitch then let him pitch. If he can't go deep, piggyback him.

Navarro played a lot in June and it was pretty clear AA wanted him playing to try and increase his value as a trade candidate. He has since had limited play, 1 game out of every 5 which is expected from most back ups. Stro as a reliever was probably an assumption based on possible limited innings and not really knowing fully the situation. He probably just should not have commented.

Could have sworn AA said he let Gibby decide who to DFA between Valencia and Colabello. I used to believe that point about Navarro, but no longer. He actually thinks Navarro is a good hitter, deadline has passed and he still bats cleanup. Him hitting Martin sixth and Navarro typically 4th-5th gives life to the belief that Gibbons is just an idiot who doesn't have a basic understanding of player value. I hate jumping on managers and there are aspects I like about him (doesn't bunt a lot, is likable) but some of the things I liked have disappeared (good BP management, good at setting platoons) and it looks like him constantly playing the wrong players in the wrong places because he really has no concept of value could be detrimental.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Stroman will only pitch in the minor leagues as part of his rehab, so it's a moot point. He'll be postseason eligible. It's not like he's going to be finished his rehab and they'll just leave him sitting in Buffalo. Also, he's allowed to get off the DL at any time... it's definitely been 60 days since March. #math

AA did say that. And personally I never believed that Navarro was being played as a directive by AA - no need to bat him cleanup so often if that was the case. It's the old-school manager in Gibby putting in a guy who has come through for him multiple times in the past. Confirmation bias in effect I'm sure, though I do believe Navarro and Cola are under-appreciated on this forum. He shouldn't be batting cleanup, or at least not as often, but I don't cringe when I see him in the lineup like others do.

I agree,Navarro and Cola have been more clutch than some of their lauded team mates.
