thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Pretty simple, who are baseball players currently active that you think will be HOFers in the future? I'll start with a few... -Albert Pujols (550 home runs and counting, 10 All-Star selections, 3 MVPs and eight top 3 finishes, .314/.399/.585 career slash-line, 2 Gold Gloves, eight seasons of 1.000+ OPS, 10 consecutive seasons of .300+ BA, 30+ home runs and 100+ RBIs) -Ichiro (4000+ hits between Japan and MLB, record for most hits in a season, 10 All-Star selections, 10 consecutive Gold Gloves, 10 consecutive 200+ hit seasons, MVP and ROY in 2001) -Miguel Cabrera (First triple crown since 1967 in 2012, 2 MVPs and 7 top 5 finishes, .321/.399/.564 career slash-line, 405 home runs, 3 AL batting titles) -Adrian Beltre (404 home runs, 4 Gold Gloves, only the fourth player to hit for the cycle three times, although all three of the others didn't make it in, still quite an accomplishment; 4 All-Star selections, 2697 career hits, one of five players to hit 100 home runs with three different teams, defensive WAR is 2nd all time to Brooks Robinson for 3B) And barring injuries/a drastic decrease in ability, Mike Trout is going to end up there one day too. A-Rod would obviously be a no-brainer, but obviously the steroid thing will remove that (whether people like it or not).
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Remind me to bump this thread on Noah Syndergaard's next start.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 - Pujols - Ichiro - Miguel Cabrera - Beltre - Trout - Stanton - Harper - Kershaw - Goldschmidt (maybe) - McCutchen - Cano (maybe) - Posey - I could see Molina, though he probably doesn't deserve it - Given health, Chris Sale
thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2015 Author Posted August 5, 2015 Good one on Posey, that guy is a machine. Reason I didn't include any pitchers is due to their volatility, but Felix Hernandez would be near the top of my list there.
baubau Verified Member Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 ^ I would even mention Verlander on there. E: Pointing towards Boxy's list. thatoneguy blocked me.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Price if he stays healthy. Ortiz ( maybe because of the name and WS) Greinke Bum Bum
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 If we give Buehrle credit for outperforming his FIP throughout his whole career, his RA9-WAR of 61.9 is right on that cusp where you can create an argument for him. Throw in all his insanely impressive intangible qualities and his magnificent defense throughout his career, and I believe that he should get in even if he probably won't. Felix is nearly a lock, and Sabathia and Utley each have a pretty good shot. I think Votto might have the longevity for it; unless he retires early and leaves tens of millions of dollars on the table, the eight remaining years on his contract should take him to his age 40 season.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Cole Hamels is a pretty good candidate.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 - Goldschmidt's career wRC+ is 33rd all time right now - he's well on his way. - Votto might have to stay remarkably healthy and productive late in his career to do it (perhaps like Helton aged...), but right now his career wRC+ is 19th all time and thus he deserves consideration IMO. I find it amazing that Beltre has a shot to reach 3,000 hits if he can stay healthy for another couple of years. Always seemed like he was a disappointment as a hitter (save 2004) until he went to Boston in 2010. He'll have 9 full seasons with a wRC+ at or under 106 if you include this year. That said - clear cut HOFer.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 I'll throw out Carlos Beltran, but I think his body broke down just a little too early. He has more career WAR than Robbie Alomar, but I think he'll miss out.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Price if he stays healthy. Ortiz ( maybe because of the name and WS) Greinke Bum Bum I don't see Price making it, or Bumgarner. Totally brainfarted on Hernandez.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 David Wright could if he could overcome this spinal thing. 52 WAR through age 32. I find it amazing Brian Giles had a higher career WAR than Vladdy...

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Price if he stays healthy. Ortiz ( maybe because of the name and WS) Greinke Bum Bum Tough for Ortiz with PED pos tests and DH/1B http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/2009/07/report_ortiz_ra.html
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 I don't see Price making it, or Bumgarner. Totally brainfarted on Hernandez. They're both durable ace's who will have dominated the league for over a decade baring a major injury. Especially Bumgarner, I wouldnt be surpised if he's won 5 world series' by the time he's done playing with the Giants.
GreekFatAss Verified Member Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 I believe that as the old timers die off and the newer generation writers vote, you will see far more players voted in based on real accomplishment rather than Wins, HR's and RBI's With that said, its a cluster f*** to pick who will get in but rather who should get in.
baubau Verified Member Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Jose Bautista I know you're joking, but if Bautista had his breakout year 4-5 years before, you could argue for him. Has been worth 28 WAR in the past 5 seasons before this.

FFS I hope so! More pitchers are going to get in without being even close to 300 wins based on other factors such as their numbers over a sustained period of dominance like Pedro and versatility Smoltz and Eck. Felix H getting close to a lock barring injury. Hamels has to be in convo.

BTS Community Moderator Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Slam dunks (IMO) A-Rod (should but won't) Pujols Ichiro Miggy Ortiz Get my vote Beltre Buehrle Sabathia On track Trout McCutchen Stanton (will he stay healthy enough?) Felix (slam dunk in a couple of years) Kershaw Greinke Kimbrel Chapman
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 I have to think that, all said and done, Tulo gets strong consideration (as long as he stays mostly healthy for the duration of his current contract, and maybe beyond...). Six seasons over 5 WAR so far.

jayswin11 Verified Member Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Haven't seen him mentioned yet but Dustin Pedroi is a good candidate to be a HOFer. If he plays well for a couple years and has a gradual decline he will have very good #'s for a 2b. Good def. MVP and WS champion.
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Would it be uncouth of me to mention Evan Longoria? 29, should be at ~43 fWAR by the end of the year, and still chugging along at a 4-win pace. Decent bet to finish his contract well over 60 fWAR if he stays healthy into his 30s.

Not at all, he definitely has a chance, doesn't even need to continue to perform at an elite level to get serious consideration.
LTR Verified Member Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Aren't we forgetting that very few people in the HOF voting look at WAR or even defense for that matter?
BTS Community Moderator Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Aren't we forgetting that very few people in the HOF voting look at WAR or even defense for that matter? I think we'll see that when Ortiz and a couple of the generations best relievers get in. WAR is a nice quick and dirty guideline though, especially for pitchers.
