OtisNixonFan Verified Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Hey guys. I'm heading to Toronto for the Jays series with the Yanks. I get in Thursday morning and leave again Monday. I'm staying about a click from the Dome. I have tickets for Sunday and am gonna try and pick up ticks for Saturday(if anyone has an extras to sell lemme know). If anyone could give me some tips for the weekend I'd appreciate it as I haven't been in TO since the Jays inaugural interleague series in '97. I've got dinner resos for Bent and Momofuku, and I'm spending Friday at Wonderland(missing Prices start but it keep the wife happy ). As well I think I'll check out the Aquarium. Any recommendations for things to see, places for drinks/food, any RC tips would be appreciated. Cheers.

If you wait in the regular people line, Leviathan takes like 2 hours, even on a weekday. If you actually want a decent experience, you probably have to shell out an extra 60 for the stupid line skipping bs. I'm not going this year unless I can justify paying more to skip lines like a prick. My parents have been to the aquarium and they said it's 100% worth the price of admission.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Ripley's is amazing, Wonderland suxxxxx.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 I like wonderland but at this time of the year I would only go with a fast pass.

I've also been to the aquarium. And yes, it's worth it. As for Wonderland, after some bad experiences in the past, I'm not going near there. If I wanted to go to a water park (which Wonderland has), I'd rather be at Fallsview or Great Wolf Lodge in Niagara Falls. BTW, I'll be at the Saturday and Sunday games myself.

intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Ripley's is indeed wicked cool. Went last year, lots of fun. Afterwards we hit up Cest What and I got myself pleasantly sauced.
Art Vandelay Verified Member Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Are you into art, at all? I was impressed with the Art Gallery of Ontario when I visited it recently.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Anyone mention the ROM yet? It's pretty impressive.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Anyone mention the ROM yet? It's pretty impressive. When they have those ROM nights on Fridays, I heard its pretty cool. They always sell out on tickets.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 My parents have been to the aquarium and they said it's 100% worth the price of admission. They were building it when I was in Toronto last time. really looking forward to it. I was at the one in Singapore 18 months ago and it was amazing. I want to see the Canadian fish exhibit. I've heard that is nice. I've seen lots of sharks and ocean tanks, but never seen a Canadian fresh water exhibit.

The ROM is okay, but I'd go with the AGO over it. I think there's more to see, although it really depends on what you're into, art, or artefacts. For me, seeing an actual Picasso, or Rodin, or Renoir was cool. I also felt the layout was easier to follow.

BTS Community Moderator Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 You guys talking about the Ripley's aquarium? Every time I'm in Toronto I see it and want to stop in, but haven't had a chance yet.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 the Picasso exhibit was great. That was worth the price on it's own. Love the 1800s canadian art as well. Picasso Museum in Paris is one of my all time favourites.

The zoo is ok. It's insanely far out of the way, though. Literally on the opposite side of the city from Ripley's and if you can't drive it's a nightmare (and by that I mean, you'd be using TTC, and that's a nightmare).
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Picasso Museum in Paris is one of my all time favourites. three years ago AGO had Picasso as their special wing exhibit. I have not been to the Louvre yet.

Zoo---->Uber.... a third of the price. lol Yeah... zoo takes all day. I've been before and know it takes all day to have the time to actually see everything.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 anyone have a good idea on how much time one should set aside for a trip to Ripley's? Three hours should be enough time. Obviously you could blow through it all in under an hour, but if you really want to take it in (and there is lots of cool stuff to take in) I'd say go with about 2 1/2 to 3 hours.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 three years ago AGO had Picasso as their special wing exhibit. I have not been to the Louvre yet. Louvres cuts off roughly 17th century IIRC, maybe even earlier.
