I thought about stopping by earlier this year to announce that Rasmus has officially defeated Jon Jay but I figured that was dumn.

I own both Jon Jay and Colby Rasmus in TAC and don't know how to feel about this.

I have shares.

You could always sell your shares and find the 5 other rays fans and re-invest in a startup on the ground floor of a new Raysfansmessage board. That sounds exciting. I don't understand why you don't like the Jays. Martin, tulo, EE, Price, travis, Buehrle...all class acts. Bautista and Donaldson can be perceived as loud, but Donaldson is top 3 MVP this year in the AL and bats despite being perceived as moody does a lot for the community, always makes himself available to the media and when not in the heat of the moment is very level headed. I don't understand, which players on the Jays would make you cheer against the team.

Legit arguing because you like a different team than another guy is f***ing dumn.

Signed,

Hypocrite who started 10K post troll thread on the Cardinals forum

That thread was legendary, Wattage still shits on Colby Rasmus to this day.

Can I answer for Hurl? Because he's been posting on the forum for like 10 years, knows a lot of posters personally, is involved in the forum fantasy leagues (which are amazing btw - you'd have a hard time finding better anywhere else), because there are a lot of very smart people who post here, and because it's silly to say that people who like different teams to varying degrees can't post on the same message board.

I never said that though. I've never criticized you or anybody else that roots for other teams, and I'm actually a proponent of trying to attract fans from other teams to grow this place. But Hurl isn't simply a fan of another team; he actively roots against the Blue Jays. He thinks the key to a successful season is for another team to screw up the Jays chances at the playoffs. Anyone that isn't deluded would admit that if that comment was posted by anybody other than "TheHurl", it would be seen as a blatant attempt at trolling, and people would be calling for the guy to get banned.

Being interested in another team, cheering them on and wanting them to do well is one thing. Going out of your way to cheer against the team that a community was built to support is nothing but low-tier trolling. Especially when it comes from a moderator of that community.

The "Playoffs will be easy to make" is a classic thread from the old board started by the immortal ECJF, which has been made every year in a joking manner after the original thread served as another victim of the ECJF curse. There's really nothing wrong with it.

I can't believe the original thread was six years ago. And of course it came in a season that ended up being f***ing brutal.

Who cares though? He's not disruptive, he never trolls, and his posts are (almost) always insightful. He adds more to the forum than 95% of the guys who want the jays to win. I don't see the issue with him casually mentioning, when it comes up, that he dislikes the front office and would prefer not to see perceived incompetence rewarded. I mean, he's entitled to that, right?

People do care. People in this city have been waiting to see playoff baseball for more than two decades, and for the first time they see a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel. Nobody needs a guy taking a s*** on that experience by saying "I wish another team f***s the Jays chances of getting into the playoffs." That is disruptive, it is trolling, it's extremely irritating and it's completely unnecessary. Being an active contributor has never stopped people from jumping down my throat every single chance they get, and it shouldn't make anyone else exempt from the way common board members are judged either.

This elitist mentality that certain board members are much more important than the rest and should therefore be given a free pass to act like dicks is one of the main reasons why this place has seen virtually no growth since its inception.

He hopes the Rays beat the Jays and cost them a playoff spot. That's not trolling, that's just how he feels. He shouldn't be banned for not thinking the way you expect a member here should think. If he were a broken record s***ing up every thread and getting a rise out of people? Sure, ban him at that point. But that's not what's happening. He shared an opinion.

Rays won't beat anyone walking home the winning run

Up until this year I could see that, but AA has done pretty much everything he can to get the team into the post-season this time around, so I don't see how that can be an excuse anymore.

You a baseball fan meat?

I worded that poorly. I know what it means, I'm just not sure why you posted it. Did the Rays lose on a bases loaded walk or something?

That's an absolute double-standard and you know it. Anybody could use that cop-out to get away with essentially anything on this forum, outside of personally attacking somebody else. This forum has ostracized people for holding unpopular opinions ever since it went up. It happens every day, in nearly every thread.

"I hope the Rays beat the Jays and cost them a playoff spot" might be an opinion, but when it's voiced on a Blue Jays board, it absolutely is trolling. That would be seen as trolling on any fan site or message board that supports a sports team. You know that and I know you know that. You're purposely turning a blind eye to it to defend TheHurl, and I very strongly believe that you wouldn't be doing that if this same comment was made by an average board member.

I just don't understand why anybody would care. Spamming the forum is annoying. Posting just to get a rise out of people is annoying. He's not doing either of those things. He stated, once, when the conversation went in that direction, that he hopes his favourite team knocks a divisional rival out in the last series of the season. Just look at the absolute garbage posted on this forum. Navarro strikes out with a man on and there are 6 people in the GDT calling him a useless fat piece of s***, but Hurl positing once about how he'd like the Rays to beat the Jays in the season's last series offends people's sensibilities? Come the f*** on.

Ugh, two pages defending Hurl's honour with paragraph-length posts. Goddammit. Anyone else need a white knight?
