I was at work during the game and while we do have a TV showing the Jays game I wasn't following it with 100% concentration.

What I did take away from it was a warning was issued to both teams after Donaldson was plunked, then he gets brushed back in his 2nd AB. Later in the game Tulo gets hit by a pitch, then right after that Donaldson gets brushed back AGAIN... and the only ejection was when erratic Sanchez hits a batter when he was deep into an at bat??? What the f***???

I saw the benches clear and Gibbons out everytime to give an earful to Wolf, and kudos to him for getting ejected on the brushback protecting Donaldson. I'm 100% sure Farrell wouldn't have the guts to come out time and time again to give earfuls to managers (Gibbons was tossed and he came out with the benches when Sanchez got tossed lol).

Now my question is, when umps f*** up this bad, is there any sort of accountability for them? Or will the MLB just let it pass? Because today was complete horse-s***. Also f*** KC. After making the World Series think they're some big s***, look at what they did to the A's.

Edit: I'm looking over Sanchez AB, the first pitch was a ball down the middle??

Ump Accountability?

Doesn't exist. Probably never will. Pretty much all there is to say, unfortunately.

I think with the way Manfred has been making radical changes (the pitch clock, batting box violations and vastly expanded instant replay) it's very possible we see a massive overhaul of the officiating system in the next 2-3 years.

Sanchez hit Martin's glove so awkwardly that the ball bounced to the side and away from the glove. So even though it was middle-middle, ump called it a ball.

Are officials accountable in any sport? Serious question, I don't know much about basketball, for example.

In soccer (judging by your avatar you probably already know :P) there's zero accountability in the big leagues. They even red carded the wrong player 2 years ago in an Arsenal/Chelsea game and I don't remember any severe punishments.

The referees have received suspensions for the extremely bizarre incidents like that. Overall the referees in soccer are far worse than the umpires in baseball, partly because there is no instant replay helping them and partly because there is a strong (and probably ongoing) tradition of match-fixing.

Some umps could care less if they get to ump a playoff series,so those umps are whats know as CHUMPS.

One would figure there would have to be changes made,as this has been going on far too long, and continues. You see it all over. All of a sudden the ump squeezes a pitcher, and changes his K zone.

They must figure they are on their way out or something.Their attitudes are disgusting to say the least.

In the premiere league soccer, if a ref has a really bad game he could find himself refereeing in the third division the next week. they really hold a high standard and for blatant stupidity there are consequences.

I have not seen it in any other sports

not true... the punishment did come, but it doesn't happen during the game. they get sent to a lower division and have to earn their way back

Basketball has the least accountability because of foul calls. Stars get all the calls

Cricket has the most accountability since every single decision is reviewable and the umpire only factors in out decisions

In north america I feel football is the sports umpires have the least impact because everything is so scrutinized

I forgot tbh. I hate how the EPL handles refs at all. Everytime a coach disagrees publicly with a ref in a post-match interview, they get fined for 'bringing the integrity of the game into disrepute' or whatever they call it

this is true of most sports. To publicly disrespect an official is never good. they have a complaint system and they do actually punish the refs for making really bad mistakes.

You can't have managers flogging the officials publicly. that would help no one.

the problem is that most sports never do anything.

one english ref gave a guy 3 yellow cards in 1 world cup game and he never refereed another world cup game again. lol ... Graham Poll

As a Croatian, I remember that exact game. It was one of our own. We were facing Australia and needed a win to get to knockouts. I was like "wait, didn't he already get a yellow? I swear I'm not crazy" when our own guy got yellow carded the 2nd time near halftime with no red following. Then after the game, he got another yellow and then the red and I'm just like "wait a minute... I swear that's his third. Like, I can't be the only one noticing". Next day, the 3 yellows = 1 red appears on every single blooper real for the rest of the week. Like, seriously lol.

I have an Aussie friend, you can just imagine how he felt and let your imagination go wild because he was livid.
