I'm curious, who here would flip Tulo for Matt Harvey?

If Harvey were being offered for Tulo he'd be a met right now.

No money involved? Then the trade becomes Tulo for Harvey plus whatever brings you 6/110 on the FA market. Good deal.

That's why I mentioned them, there isn't a fit anywhere else, unless I'm missing something, and yes, EE would veto any move he doesn't like, it's his right.

Astros? Angels? Mets? Seattle darkhorse maybe ?

Hate the trade; This is the Jose Reyes trade part II. Trade for an very good but aging short stop on a long contract in exchange for one fantastic prospect (Hoffman) and two pretty good ones. Oh, I forgot, take on >$50m in salary. Yes the defense will be better and so will the hitting, but at what long-term cost! A team that needs 4 or 5 starters trades one of its best pitching prospects for more hitting. Unbelievable. I absolutely love what AA has done with the farm system, but just about every single one of his Major League trades has worked out horribly. This is yet another one; all for a piece you could find another solution to.

haven't voted.... my opinion is neutral.... Jays take on more salary commitment and slightly more risk in return for a 1-2 WAR SS upgrade

the trade only makes sense if pitching upgrades happen, otherwise, its almost pointless

Posted
It would be pointless if it were a rental.

Not really.... reasonable expectation is Tulo has 2, maybe 3 good years left, given his injury history.... cannot expect 5 years of 5WAR

First post and realise that I've had more than a few pops, but, there are 6 people (you know who you are) that don't like this deal. Please get together and give your best argument why the deal is bad and then start your own religion.

can't answer that until the other dominos fall. tulo trade alone does no accomplish the objective

I would do this a million times over. This isn't the Dickey trade where you're giving up a top 5 MLB prospect + a good catching prospect for a 40 year old waferballer. You're giving up a good prospect + junk + Reyes and his negative D and contract for a current proven superstar. How can you hate

Summed up my thoughts perfectly, anyone comparing this to the Dickey trade is an idiot. The injuries are a concern but it's not like Reyes was durable anyway.

I know the objective is to obtain SP, and hopefully AA nabs at least one guy that would be the unanimous choice to start a WC game, however, even as a stand-alone trade this is fantastic for now and the future.

Even if Tulo starts to decline, I think the one thing we all can agree on is that AA has the ability to dump that contract 3 years from now. Our infield is pretty sick right now. Who would of thought even 9 months ago that we would have 2 MVP calibre players on the left side?!

You can say that about any one individual deal.

You can't evaluate a deal based on other deals. You can evaluate how an entire organization built is program that way... But not an individual deal.

not when you move high end prospects. when you do that, you have one objective.... win now, and jays can't without significant SP upgrades

I can't believe people like this trade. Tulo is great but he's been injured the last 3 years - now he comes over to play on turf, he's also signed until 2021. We still can't pitch and we just keep giving away pitching - this is a video game trade.

Even though Troy Tulowitzki has a OBP of only .257 and SLG of .290 over the past 15 games, he still helps the team to win games with his greatly improved defense over Reyes. Tulowitzki's defense should continue to be exceptional and his offense will most certainly get much better.

Now that Tulowitzki has been a Blue Jay for almost a month, it is easy to see that it has been a great trade for the Blue Jays.

if those numbers were okay, then we could have just slotted Goins at short

Tulo is really struggling.

Let Tulo struggle while Donaldson makes MLB look like AAA, in 2 weeks it could very well be Tulo carrying this team...hell, maybe he'll wait until the playoffs (knock on wood) and catch fire at the perfect time.

For how long Robert?

Goins > Tulo...amirite?

I still have a hard time believing that Alex Anthopoulos was able to get the Rockies to take Reyes. So far, it seems like there aren't any teams who want to obtain Reyes from Colorado.

Where would the Blue Jays be now with Reyes still at SS instead of Tulowitzki. Probably in the mix with the Orioles, Rays and Twins making a painful limp for a wild card spot.

Here is a new article on Reyes - http://www.denverpost.com/rockies/ci_28686281/jaded-reyes-would-welcome-trade that is titled

Jaded Jose Reyes would welcome a trade from the Rockies

"I don't want to spend the rest of my career on a last-place team."

Posted

Wow that Reyes is so open about it

Yes. We traded some good talent in that trade too. But at the same time AA moved a negative asset for a superstar who is a much better all around player. And reduced payroll by a couple million bucks while he was at it. Well done sir.

There's no way Colarodo intended to keep Reyes. They must have planned to flip him but overvalued him perhaps. Big mistake.

They would have known that flipping Reyes wouldn't be easy. They'll work hard to do it in the offseason. Maybe they can find a trade partner who has a bad contract SP.

I wonder how Colorado will be able to move Jose Reyes? Has there ever been a trade where a team offers another team a player like Reyes, plus additional prospects and $12 million subsidy a year (in return the Rockies would be able to unload Reyes' contract).

If the Rockies are unable to move Reyes then I wonder if Reyes will be willing to play a few games a week and help a younger SS take over his position?
